In my opinion, it is one of the best console RPGs you will ever play. It starts out a bit slow, but boy, once it starts going, wow what a game. and the ending is one of the best in any game I have ever played.

The game is very good, particularly the populated worlds and the interaction/choices Shepard can use. There's often multiple ways to do things, and you can either do things with civility or be a total ignoramus and just let your trigger finger do the talking. Although some have complained that the paragon/renegade paths play to the extremes too often, it's a lot better than force-fed dreck normal RPGs give. Did I mention characters use guns and such? Yeah, it's awesome.
If there's one bad thing, it's some of the sidequests are rather boring -- particularly digging up minerals on vacant planets (which make up about 95% of the galaxy) and the samey-ness of those planets' dungeons. These are a good way to get money but when you get to the 2nd time through, you can probably ignore this aspect and just play through the plot stuff for extra fun times. Virmire and Noveria, in particular, are incredibly fun to go through.
So yeah, you should definitely get the game. It's probably around $20-30 and it's worth every penny. Mass Effect 2 should be coming out in the upcoming months though, and while ME1 saves can be carried over to that for extra stuff, that may be reason to hold off if your wallet's thin.

It is absolutely, one hundred percent worth it. Especially with ME2 around the corner, you need to get it if you have a love for RPGs.

The story is extensive and deep, give it some credit. ME2 is right around the corner of the New Year's. Ahh, there are so many good games coming out, I want them all!!

Im in the middle of the game now. It is worth buying the only problem i have with it so far is the side quests do seem very repetitive land here scout this go in there kill that collect it. As i mentioned tho that is just side missions the main quests have been very exciting.

Yea the side quests are a pain in the arse, and most are fairly boring and samey, but by the end the main quest will more than make up for it.

It took me 61 hours to complete so if your likely to do all the quests and try and max out your level then it's more than good value for money... even if your not guna do that I'd still reccomend it.
