Ask a gams jarnalist - the thread!

Feel like question of the week isn't enough of a way to interact with and be featured on the podcast? Now you can submit questions in this thread that pertain to the games industry, what we've seen/heard lately, what some of the aspects of the job are like, insider industry stories etc.
I want to keep this organized though, so every single joke post will be deleted.
Let's have 'em!

What is the most difficult game you've had to review? (By difficult, I mean a really hard game where you constantly die, or it has really challenging puzzles. Somthing to that effect.)

How do you go about writing a hidden collectibles guide? Finding hundreds of items when no one before you has done it doesn't sound easy, and how long does this usually take?

What kind of education do you need to work in the industry? It seems like it could go all over the place from little-to-none to a degree in English, or a degree in animation, game design, etc.
Semi-related: How did you guys get into the business?

Mikel, what does the taint of a million closed minded fanboys smell like?
Brett, did you ever purchase from your workplace behind closed doors?
Chris, how often did you get laid in your high school years?

1: If journalism hadn't panned out, what would you see yourself doing?
2: What game, thanks to reviewing, has been ruined for you?
3: What made you go into Journalism?
4: Has working in the games industry, killed off some of the "Sparkle" it once had?
5: What game do you want to see made (I:E Manhunt with The Joker, 2D mirrors edge)?
6: What score (By a different reviewer) do you disagree with the most?

1) What is your favourite part about being a games journalist?
2) What advice would you give to someone mid-education about getting into a games journalism career? (Qualifications, experience, general fun-having)
3) Have there ever been any points at which you've gone "Goddamnit, I HATE my job."?

Besides Japan, have you gone to other countries for videogame journalism?
On average what is the percentage of time spent writing articles compared to playing videogames?(for reviews and features)
How many times a year do you visit gaming developers and conventions?
How does feature exclusives work? Does the gaming press pay publisher/developer for first dibs on info, or do they come first to gaming publications?
What were some of the biggest peeves finishing games journalism school and going into videogame journalism?
Is Mikel Raparaz the biggest grammar nazi and takes gaming journalist seriously the mostest at gdar?
For inside scoop stories, how long do you have to keep your mouth shut from the general public?
Most of the people that work at gamesradar have majors in journalism or English. Who doesn't have degrees in those categories and write for gamesradar? (the web people don't count, unless they do write, and I know that Tyler Wilde has a degree in illustrations)
Since you work for Future and they own multiple gaming publications, how many times do you chip in/ write features/articles for other magazines?

What did you think you would do growing up? Would you make games for did you always think you would write for Nintendo Power/PSM/ect...?
Also, did you go to school for Journalism and would say somebody would have to to work at a gaming publication?
On average, how long in advance do you know about games?
And what game company is least/most secretive about their upcoming game?

1. What is your current outlook on the industry?!
I recall a few years back claiming that the industry would replicate the industry collapse of the late 70's, thankfully, I was wrong, but I'm curious the direction you guys see the industry headed...
2. How do you guys cope under an embargo?!
I mean, I'm aware having a job is MUCH better than spilling the beans a lil' early, but is there anything you guys do in particular to take your mind off of it or...
3. How are special events guests determined?! (In your offices at least)
What I mean is, who determines who gets to go to special gaming/developer events?! Like the current MW event, who decided who was going?!

How hard is it decided what score to give a game, and which games were really hard for you to reward scores for? Like should it be a 6 or and 8.
What gaming publication/website is considered the least respected/shitty? Like Garm Reformer or something?

How much of games journalism is actually playing the games you write about? Before I really started listening to podcasts, I had this idea of games journalism as kind of being this job where all people did was play games all day, and maybe spend a bit of time writing about them. However, after I started to listen to a couple of podcasts (you guys have talked about it, and so have a couple of 1UPs podcasts I think), it seems that you guys don't really do that much game playing at the office. Is this true? If it's not too complicated to answer, what is it that you guys actually do instead of playing the games? I'm really interested in this because journalism is something I'm thinking about for college, and if that pans out, then I'd love to get into games journalism, and I s'pose it would be good to know what I may be getting into from industry professionals like yourself.

Do you think there will every be a comeback on video game TV shows (like X-Play or GameTrailers) or do you think they will just stay on the internet (Co-Op, Broken Pixles, ect.)

Great idea Brett!
My question (which I've actually contemplated trying to ask you guys before via the forums) is:
What college/university courses did you guys take (and for how long), and what prior work experience (after college/university) did you have before winding up at GamesRadar?
I'm asking because I am preparing to take a major in University after my idea of becoming a video game designer met with reality. I didn't want to give up on the games industry entirely though and thought that maybe a job as a games journalist or a job in a more managerial position for a game company might do.
I decided to start off with an introduction to Political Science as well as one for Business, to get my feet wet in subjects that might help me (and interest me greatly outside of the video game spectrum as well). And I will be choosing my first dedicated major next fall. I'm leaning towards Political Science right now in case you're wondering.
I figured the best information would come straight from the horses mouth.

1.Other than Gamesradar what gaming site/Magazine would you like to work for?
2. Are there any other Games Journalist whom you'd like to work with, or respect/admire in any way? Or is there a specific games journalist whose work you really enjoy?
3. What sparked your interest in journalism in the first place? Did you go into journalism with the intention of being a game journalist, or was it just spontaneous?

When did you decide you wanted to become a game journalist? Were you mixing 2 things that you liked, or was it something different?
