The problem is that there are so many genres for gaming. There's more than just "action/adventure," "shooter," and all that. There's also RTS, more importantly FPS, Simulation, Turn Based Strategy, and MMO.

Yeah, I know I left a few genres out... Whatever, just fill it out anyway, and if you want you can go ahead and add any thing you want.
Also, Gen consoles are PS2, XB, or GCN, next Gen is Wii, 360, and PS3.

Best RPG: Paper Mario (and perhaps its sequel)
Best Action Adventure: Zelda: Majora's Mask
Best Platformer: Banjo-Tooie, Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Bros. 3
Best Racing: Diddy Kong Racing
Best Fighting: Super Smash Bros. Melee
Best Shooter: Conker: Live & Reloaded and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Best Sports: Pro Evolution Soccer 5
Best Villian: Bowser, especially in the Paper Mario games
Best Hero: Conker
Best Year in Gaming: 2005, and 2000-2001. (The latter means that a lot of my favourite games were released in Japan and the USA in 2000, but came to Europe in 2001.)
Overall Best Idea: As of recent? Rare's idea to combine the shooting genre with certain platform elements in Conker: Live & Reloaded. This idea was also executed, be it in an entire different (and also creative) way, in Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath.
Best Classic System: Nintendo 64, if that counts as classic
Best Gen Console: XBox
Next Gen Console You Want: Wii
Best Handheld: DS

Best RPG: Skies of Arcadia Gamecube version (My Dreamcast wasn't online to download all the extras).
Best Action Adventure: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/ Prince of Persia Trilogy
Best Platformer: Super Mario series and Donkey Kong Country Series
Best Racing: Mario Kart series
Best Fighting: Mortal Kombat it really blew up the genre
Best Shooter: Halo 1, Halo 2 was a crappy letdown for the campaign.
Overall Best Idea: Super Mario Gaming would'nt be where it is today without the chubby plumber.
Best Villian: King Koopa he just never gives up
Best Hero: Link from the Zelda series
Best Classic System: SNES
Best Gen Console: Xbox
Next Gen Console You Want: Xbox 360, and the Wii
Best Handheld: GBA SP I don't have a DS or PSP so can't count those
