Feast your eyes on the first image from Thief IV. The over-the-shoulder photo was taken at Eidos’ offices in Montreal during a playtest session. On the TV in the photo, you can see a character, presumably series protagonist Garrett, holding and aiming a bow. The third-person perspective is a change for the series, which was primarily first-person in all previous iterations. Although Thief 3 did let you pull the camera back to the third-person perspective, it was underwhelming, to say the least.

Rumors have described the game as a third-person game with a focus on climbing, travel, and archery, and the new photo seems to support this. The game will be the focus of a talk at GDC next week entitled “Stealing Sound: Generative Music in THIEF.” Expect more details on GamesRadar as development on Thief 4 continues.
