First look at the Necronomicon from the Evil Dead remake

Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake has taken advantage of the Halloween season to do a spot of timely marketing, with the film releasing a pair of new images giving a first look at the Necronomicon.

Perhaps better known as the Book of the Dead, the Necronomicon is the fateful tome which starts all the trouble in that remote woodland shack.

To quote one Ash Williams, “bound in human flesh and inked in blood, this ancient Sumerian text contained bizarre burial rites, funerary incantations and demon resurrection passages.” Basically, it’s bad news, particularly if you read aloud from it.

The new version of the book looks suitably grisly, what with its flesh-binding stitches and bloody hand-prints on the pages. “He’ll suck your soul dry,” it says ominously, next to a picture of some kind of diabolical beastie. Yikes.

Produced by Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi, and co-starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez and Jessica Lucas, Evil Dead opens in the UK on 12 April 2013.
