First images from Straw Dogs remake released online

The first shots from Rod Lurie’s upcoming Straw Dogs remake have landed online.

Alright, they’re grainy scans from the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly , but they at least offer us our first glimpse of the film’s central cast.

Lurie’s film is a reimagining of Sam Peckinpah’s controversial 1971 thriller, which starred Dustin Hoffman and Susan George as a couple doing up an old English farmhouse.

When they piss off the locals, though, bloody war is waged in the British countryside. The film was banned in the UK in 1984 thanks to its controversial rape scene, then re-released in an edited form in 1995. It was finally released uncut on DVD in 2002.

This new take on Gordon Williams’ novel The Siege of Trencher’s Farm has been relocated to Mississippi, while James Marsden and Kate Bosworth play the young couple.
