Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn closed beta begins Monday

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will enter closed beta Monday on North American PCs, but it's not too late to try to nab a slot. Closed beta participants will be able to explore the game's remodeled regions as well as its public-quest style Full Active Time Events.

We were struck by the MMORPG's beauty in our most recent preview, and potential players can get a taste (as well as a preview of how well their computers will run the game) by downloading and running the "Exploration" benchmark program from FFXIV's website.

We'll find out whether A Realm Reborn can make up for the initial effort's lackluster performance when it ships on PC and PlayStation 3 this summer.

I am very excited to try this out! I played FFXI for close to a decade, and also played FFXIV 1.0. It was horrible at the start but the changes made were huge and it was really good by its end. Since it has been down in November, I've tried out some other MMOs (The Secret World, Aion, Rift, TERA), and I just haven't been able to find an experience quite like the FF MMOs. All these other MMOs are such quest-spam ("Go kill 10 bears and bring me their ballsacks"), whereas FF has (thus far) not followed this pattern. I look forward to exploring the Beta tomorrow!

Hoping to get into this so bad : | Been looking for an MMO to play for years now, and while i haven't seen a giant amount of what this offers, the world it's set in makes me interested. Beta can't come quick enough
