Bethesda's finally given us a look under the rubbery skin of Fallout 4's android population. The studio shared several new images pulled from The Art of Fallout 4, two of which focus on the (admittedly super creepy) synths.
Before now, we'd gotten a look at mean-sounding types like "Synth Striders" and "Synth Assaulters" in the Fallout 4 combat trailer, but I doubt they're all murderous T-800 wannabes. For instance, the mysterious stranger in that early Fallout 4 photo seems to have a skeletal, metallic hand and glowing eyes - looks like synths are accepted (or at least not shot on sight) in some parts of society. Kind of like ghouls, but without the rotting smell.
The central figure in Fallout 3's Replicated Man quest line was also a synth, though his human skin was significantly more convincing. You could either help the eponymous android escape from his creator, a scientist from the Institute, or turn him in for reprogramming and the long road back to The Commonwealth - the post-nuclear Massachusetts that serves as the setting for Fallout 4.
The other two images from The Art of Fallout 4 show a harbor with a rusted-out battleship and a pristine suit of old-school Power Armor, looking like it was pulled straight from the original Fallout box art (minus a century's worth of grime). Make sure you check out our Fallout 4 concept art deep dive for more insight.
