World of Nintendo

Secret Nintendo stuff for top-level operatives

Words: Martin Kitts, NGamer UK

8) Guitar Hero drum mod

According to people who know the difference, the drums for Guitar Hero: World Tour aren’t built quite as well as a real set of multi-hundred dollar MIDI drums (honestly) but there are a few hacks you can do to bring their performance up to scratch. There’s absolutely loads of warranty-voiding tricks on this website, mostly involving hot glue and bits of cardboard.

9) iPhone ocarina

Some cocksure Apple exec recently declared that the iPhone is the future of handheld gaming. Look – it doesn’t even need buttons! You can use it as a magic ocarina. Marvel at somebody playing the Zelda theme on it. Witchcraft, it is.

10) Game Boy iPhone

Some people obviously don’t like their expensive iPhones looking like swanky black pieces of techno-glass, so here’s a theme that turns it into something resembling a 1989 Game Boy. Who needs full colour when you’ve got four shades of green?

11) LEGO balance

We’re not sure what’s more impressive about this video – that there are two LEGO robots playing football (and looking like Ramdozer from Blast Corps) or that they’re controlled by Wii balance boards. It’s the sport of the future.

12) Toadcake

This looks more like a toy than a cake, but it’s made of confectionary and is perfectly edible. Was edible. It’s really old now, and some lucky sod will have scoffed it already.

13) SNES clock

The pure awesomeness of this converted SNES can only be appreciated when you visit this website and see a video of the digits being moved with an actual SNES controller and proof that the cart containing the display can be removed. Genius. It would have looked nicer if the modder had used a European or Japanese SNES instead of the US version – the ugliest console ever created.

14) Mario on Xbox 360

After a couple of years of claiming the hardcore high ground, Xbox 360 owners now have their own Mii rip-offs, courtesy of Rare. And the first thing people made when they got their hands on the new avatars? Mario clones. What else? See how it stacks up to our own Mario avatar.

I remember X Play doing that console destruction thing for that last generation of consoles, too. The Xbox went down in their first round of dropping, and I think the Gamecube ended up being toughest. Nintendo always seems to build really durable stuff. When I used to get Nintendo Power, people would write in all the time about some ridiculous destruction that a console lived through.

like ive always said about ps3. Value for money, won't exactly stop working when you drop it. Im pleasently suprised by the wii's capability for taking damage, both very well made consoles.

Obviously The 360 isnt as well made as it's predecessor.

And I reckon they wouldn't be able to destroy a "black box" flight recorder (although they are usually luminous orange or yellow)
