Of course, not everybody can come up with the kind of quality we’ve compiled on the next few pages, but if you’ve got something as good as our celebrity Samus cosplay or, erm, that vibrating mushroom pillow thing, let us know!

1) DS camera

Non-Japanese gamers will be waiting until next summer to get their hands on the DSi and its 0.3 megapixel camera, so how about something that’s available right now and is altogether higher tech? This homebrew gadget is for controlling an expensive digital SLR with a DS, so you can take HDR images without having to lug a laptop around with you. Or so we’re told.

3) Ex-Vice President-hopeful Samus

America is the place where a kid without a cent to their name can grow up to be president. But only if he’s fairly attractive, which is probably why John McCain recruited a hot ‘hockey mom’ to divert the cameras from his lumpen face. And here she is dressed as assorted game characters!

4) Top cosplay

In case you were wondering how they got Sarah Palin into that Samus costume, here’s where you’ll find the original version. She’s a cosplayer called Jenni and her website is stashed with brilliant photos of her dressed as Nintendo characters and Japanese schoolgirls. Bookmarked!

5) Pumpkin Bob-omb

Yes, it’s a Halloween Bob-omb pumpkin, all painted black, with a metal detonator rammed in its skull and a lit fuse. You could be shot dead by police snipers for bringing that within 50 miles of an airport. Trick or treat?
