World of Nintendo

Dipping a toe in the Nintendo backwaters

Words: Martin Kitts, NGamer UK

11) Mobile heroes
Ever wondered what artfully goredrenched Wii assassin game No More Heroes might look like on a mobile phone? Well, no more wondering – here it is. Looks a bit different, doesn’t it? It’s going to be available possibly only for Japanese owners of I-Mode phones at the moment.

12) Quilts ‘n’ pillows
The problem with these one-off pieces of art and craft is that by the time you’ve scraped together the cash to buy them, they’ve been sold to somebody else/richer. This quilts and pillows specialist appears to have a higher output than most, though, and a very nice line in cuddly 8-bit stitching. Having said that, we were too slow to snap up an excellent Zelda quilt. Dammit.

13) Stylus of objection!
One of our editors scored this sweet piece of promotional tat from his real friends on a certain games industry magazine. It’s a genuine Phoenix Wright stylus, wrist-strap and logo dangly thing to attach to your DS. Not sure whether you can actually buy these or if they’re just a reward for writing ultra-harsh reviews from behind a veil of anonymity. Nice, though.

14) Marble salver
This is for anyone who’s had trouble telling when they’re holding the remote dead level in games such as Monkey Ball and Kororinpa. You slot the remote in the middle, add a marble and hold the tray by the rather disturbing hand-shaped grips on the side. Yes, you could just use an ordinary tray or, you know, your own eyes focused on the screen instead of on a marble.

15) Falco papercraft
Perhaps you might like to test your papercraft skills on something challenging. Download this amazing Falco model, print it out on some heavy paper, and if you manage to get it looking anything like this example, you're freakin' skilled (or have way too much free time).

16) Goldeneye on Wii
Looks like somebody got fed up waiting for Nintendo and Microsoft to sort out their differences over the Virtual Console release of GoldenEye. Hackers appear to have got the game running on Wii, although you could probably buy a second-hand N64 and a real copy of the game in the time it will take to figure out how to do it yourself.

17) Midna munny
Ever heard of Munny toys? They’re basically blank dolls that you can art up into anything you want, depending on your craft skills. Saaio from the kidrobot.com forums obviously has a bit more talent than most, and has made this excellent Midna figure out of nothing but Munny, modelling clay and time.

18) Wii Fit skin
Your plain white balance board doesn’t look so great after sweaty feet have started to stain it, does it? Here’s a solution – thick vinyl skins decorated in a variety of tasteful styles. Hope they’re not slippy – a broken leg all because of a fashionable board would be rubbish.

19) Samus Phazon suit
This model of Samus in her Phazon Suit is seriously impressive – and, at $225, not cheap. But it comes decked out with LEDs for that glowing Phazon effect, and is part of a limited edition of 1,500 units that’s sure to sell out before the launch next year.

20) PC Wii remotes
Everybody wants in on that motion sensing action right now, and twisty-spinny-tilty devices are popping up all over the place. This one is called Stix. It comes in 2D or 3D versions, it looks somewhat familiar, it’s for playing online casual games, and nowhere on its website does it acknowledge that you can connect a real Wii remote to a PC without too much trouble.
