It's nifty, but like cell phones, I'll get over most of the features pretty quick.
Still, my interest is piqued, if only for the pirating possibilities of the SD slot. That's the only thing that is going to justify the higher price point to me.
I still probably wont get it though.
this item is losing so much of the cool stuff the ds had! without the gameboy slot the dsi will be losing so much. they will lose the migrating from pokemon diamond (how do u complete the pokedex!) and the guitar hero on tour games. all in all this is a sucky decision by nintendo
eeewwwww... i wouldn't buy this thing if i had a million bucks to waste. how can you say that this thing corners the psp? to be honest, i don't use many of the multimedia options because i use my ipod touch. but in terms of games the psp just wipes the floor with the ds. sure, I'll give you new super mario bros, animal crossing, and mario kart, but all of those games are quite old and stale. speaking of games, have you seen the gta games on psp!? sure, you can get exited about your grainy/pixely overhead views of some low def cars and people shooting(chinatown wars), but I'm going to stick to my beautifully rendered gta games on psp. (well, to be honest i haven't played vice city stories yet, but i ordered that one today) not to mention all of the games i can get on psn that are full, complete games rather than minigames!
Nintendo is dead to me, I traded in my wii and my ds is up for sale on amazon. (if that tells you anything) if you need me, i will be playing some good games on psp.
as far as im concerned, the Lite brought more over the DS than the dsi does over the lite. the lite had much better screen, smaller, better speakers and backround light that actually lit the screen up.
the dsi just brings loads of gimmicky crap that we've come to expect from nintendo. mp3? almost everything else has an mp3 as well, why would i want it in my ds? same with the camera, and i find photography to be rather useless as it is (exept in cases where something needs documenting, but pictures of a pair of converse shoes? no thanks).
i wont be getting a dsi, the lack of a GBA slot is a deal breaker.
The DSi has some nifty features (i.e. gimmicks) but as far as I'm concerned, these features add little to the actual gaming function of the DS. Two cameras and a rudimentary photo manipulator? MP3 player and 'editor'? I admit the DS shop and a longer stylus seems nice but nothing worth shelling out extra cash over a DS Lite.
The lack of a GBA slot also serves to kill whatever gaming function the DS series offers. And on a side note: the lower battery life isn't helping either.
As long as Nintendo doesn't phase out the DS Lite too fast after the DSi's North American release, I'm fine with its existence.
I can't believe some people were complaining about the camera capabilities in the first DSi article. The no-GBA-slot fact kind of disappointed me, but with my original DS' touch screen being malfunctional, I can have a DSi and a GBA-DS. I'll miss the GBA, but honestly, it's time to move on, people. Realistically thinking, why would Nintendo add a GBA slot when there aren't any new games coming out for it (as far as I know)? They, like I, probably would have thought that people would keep their old DS and just buy the DSi, as opposed to trading it in. Why not just keep both??
By the way, GR, the camera quality was great. What kind of camera is that, anyway? I've been meaning to pick up one of those high-quality video cameras...
