if ea let people try warhammer as a trial account mebe more wow players would play it.i myself play wow and so does my wife.we both are interested in warhammer but only thing putting us off is we havent had a chance to try it first.is there a trial for warhammer.
Actually, the first 30 days are included in the price. Says it right on the box.
I use to play WoW. I started when it first came out but played it off and on after the first year. Mainly just did PvP. Never did like raiding.
One of the things that make me love WAR so much is that you can PvP right off the bat. You'll only have 1 or 2 abilities but you still can because the boost your stats to lvl 8 for the Scenario.
PQ's are pretty damn awesome too. They're sorta like mini-dungeons. WAR also eliminated grinding for me. The only time I find myself grinding is when there's no one around for a PQ and I want some loot in it.
I can't vouch for the later levels, but starting of War is superior. I'm in Austin, and I've played every major MMO since Ultima Online. Yes, there are trials, at igames centers you get a free 7 day trial. If you are in Austin, the birthplace of the MMO, that would mean at my store. http://tekrepublik.net/index.php/component/content/article/102-free-7-day-warhammer-online-trial-keys
If not then check the igames site for a center near you offering the trial. We have 3 people playing right now, and I'll be playing later today as well.
I am one of those players that wont go to a link not direct to Ea website, as anyone that plays wow , there is a direct link for a 10 day free trial, however on warhammer website there is not. Yes i do understand three is 30 days free if you purchase the game but unlike many , i wont spend more money on another game only to find out that its no good.
Once ea put a free trial on there website , i and many others will try.
I would advice any player that is looking to get a free trial, do not purchase it from any website other that warhammer online or ea.
Take it from me there is many web sites who are hacks .bars trophy
I've been Playing WoW on and off now since it's release, and have got a Collectors Edition copy of WAR, In my Personal opinion, WAR is superior now to WoW as it is now and will be in the Future but nor for the first Year or so, when WoW was Released it was something new to me and my Freinds (And people who became my Freinds while playing) for the first Year or so everything was WoW, WoW, WoW, but after that first year and ever since, WoW has become, to me and mine at least, a Stagnant Game, everything you do is just Same old, Same old, it's either, boring, imbalanced, Small-time PvP or Raiding, and that get sold after about a Year, and anything they release, any expantion, any new level cap, is not going to change that, I personally at least will not be buying WotLK, as it dosen't interest me whatsoever, I'm more looking forward to FM 09 and Red Alert 3 than WotLK.
Now WAR on the other hand is everything i could want from a game, You play it how you like it, it looks fantastic, it's FUN to say the least, and above all, the total feel of the gaem is just So "Right", you almost feel as if you are in a Medievil city as you trudge through the Slums of Altdorf, and when doing the quests it's not just "oh Look, some cartoon cahracter in brightly-coloured glowing armour want's me to kill 100 of these guys, and however anatomically incorrect it will be, 9 out of ten of them wont have the required Livers i need to complete the quest" In WAR the quest's actually have afeel behind them, in the case of a chain in Empire chapter 10 "A Man's Father has betrayed the forces of Order and thrown his lot in with Chaos, but has dissappeared, kill these guys to bring out their leader, then kill him to find out where he's gone, Now, you know the general area, go here to pick up a magic seeking scroll form this person, then return to the area, kill a few of these things and harvest their essence to power it, then find and kill said traitor parent" the game just feels so right, and the Tome of knowledge makes it feel as the gaem is challenging you on an Intellectual level as well, oh yes, if you like that sort of thing, this game actaully requires you to READ! a thing which a vast majority of players in WoW need to learn to do, overall WAR is a superior game, WoW will probably still Dominate the insustry for the Reason's that previous people have Stated, It's what they know, why try something new, when they're happy with what they have, all their freinds are there, which i totally understand, it was very difficult to leave my pals the times i layed of WoW, But WAR will always be there, sitting on the edges waiting to take its Choppa to WoW's Legs, then shove it ina barrel, and chuck it off a Bridge....WAAAAAGGHHH!!!!
I didnt say i wouldnt give war a chance , I did say that there is no trial. I play a lot of online games, BF2 , Cod4 , wow , BF1942 etc, Most if not all has had a trail , avail to download from ea . This game does now give that option !!
What ive heard so far from people that play wow and have got war online, they said its almost the same in graphics and enjoyable the same as wow. They did however mention that the LAG in game was quite bad.
We of course from wow are all in the same boat, There is nothing to do in wow right now , I am in the beta WOTLK and im liking the new area, and its something that i am looking forward too.
Now what i would like is to try this game on trial,if i am going to play war im having to pay more than wow and with my husband also playing wow, both of us are having to pay in total ã40 every 2 months and thats not including if we decide to get war online.
IF EA do decide to have a trial before wotlk i and many others would try and if we did like it, there may be a possiblity that we wont go back to wow.
But the dread is that like , wow BF2 and many other online games they do get boring and end up there is nothing more to do....
Well first of all wow has been broken for a while because they unbalance classes because of the "whiners"...I get 1 shotted by a fire mage because I don't understand to cast silence/kick/stun when he flashes...
They make mounts available at 30...heroics available after they quest grind so pugs are a freakin nightmare. The game has basically been destroyed by the mass population. And pvp in wow is absolutely horrible..talking about game mechanics. And welfare epics? wtf?
Don't get me wrong i've been playing since pre-bc and I loved wow..Got 10+ people addicted also at my job. Wow will always be a part of me and i cannot turn my back. But, its old. There will always be hard cores that will keep it up. Hell AO is still alive somehow. Plus half of wow is gold farmers anyways.
But, First Warhammer has history also. But, I hear end game isn't very good. But, warhammer isn't about bosses. If you want bosses..play wow. No one will ever come close to end game raiding like wow. Ever...
I'm only level 5 so far, so we will see. But, as more hardcore pvp'ers come to warhammer it has great potential to be what pvp is all about. Hell, how many remember being in av for 8+ hours and join it the next day and its still the same av.
Why people act like WOW is a god, I have no idea. Its just a product. But, Blizzard is very good at content and they are top notch. But, warhammer is a different game. It is not wow, nor is it really a competitor. To some degree it is and has quests for wow types. But, in the end it is a PVP oriented game.
I only see hardcore pvp'ers switching over.
And yes in wow right now lfg types wait a long time. The population has had a decrease. But the gold farmers are there in great numbers.
If the community helps, warhammer has great potential to be the pvp leader in fantasy. My thoughts. It already has done better than AOC and tabula from the start.
Time will tell, but trollers saying that warhammer sucks or it could never be wow, are just morons because it isn't wow, nor is it trying to be.
@ the moron Pendola. I love how people have no fucking clue at all what they are talking about. It makes me laugh.. If your game lags- don't be cheap buy a better computer.. Sorry if you can't read unless the next is size 72 font. RvR's are nothing like WoW BGs... Please think before you speak, you are embarrassing your self. I played WoW 2 years straight, 5 70s, t6 later I have found the light. I realized how worthless it was to sit on a game 24-7 because you needed to be "Leet" and get the best gear ever. Staying up untill your eyes bleed just to get the next best thing. Don't let these morons fool you. WAR is really the next big thing. I actually quit WoW after hearing and seeing WOTLK. I knew I needed to make a change in my life. So I sold my account and got 300 bucks out of it. Did that make up for the late nights and the lives lost? No. Don't listen to the haters.. Try it yourself and I guarentee you will be canceling your WoW accounts. This game is really what is said to be in the review on this site. I'm level 26 now and the game is not at all unbalanced and there are plenty of players.. I mean come on.. WoW had such a long time to become the #1 MMO out there. WAR is barely a month out of beta. The team working to fix the bugs is awesome as well. Cudos to them, they release a fix almost everyday. I love this game. It doesn't destroy your life like WoW did. You don't have to rely on end game guilds to have fun. YOu don't have to roll a Druid just to get PvP gear and reach the top of the bracket. Most of my friends on WoW and in real life left all the work they did in WoW to try out something new.. None of us are disappointed. So please, please, ignore the morons on here with an IQ that will label them as Mentally Retarded and try it for yourself. You will not be disappointed. Have a good day.
I played the closed beta of WAR and loved it. I quit WoW and rolled a few classes on destro. I was sick of all little kid crap on WoW and from the look of it, all the new abilities for the expansion were just taken from other classes and renamed. I didn't see much change. And with the "new" dungeons being ones from preBC brought back, for me, it would just be a waste of time.
WAR made questing fun and like they said in one of their videos before the game was released, as a healer, i don't just stand back and heal. I can actually lvl as a healer w/o problems.
And for guilds, with there being guild ranks/privledges/achievements, it makes the whole "guild" experience different and actually worth while.
The only thing atm that i see that could be a problem is there only being two main professions. I think w/o more, it will kill the economy but hopefully they'll come out with more when the new cities and whatnot are rdy.
I disagree. WOW players should stay in WOW. The ones that are trying WAR mostly suck in RVR play. They have no tactical knowledge of how to really RVR. rvr 101: 1. The tank in front of you has probably got at least 1 healer you NEED to kill first. 2. Look for theannoying bright Wizard next, kill it then smash the tank in force. If you can do this come play WAR. If this sounds like sillyness stay in WOW. :))
As a current WoW player who also got WAR, I feel that the failure of EA's Customer Support to deal with important issues like issuing a bad patch on 10/08/2008 will lose a lot of people who was interested in the game previously. Unlike when Blizzard has dropped the ball in a patch, nothing has been issued officially or unofficially by EA.
My personal feeling is to what for the bugs to be worked out then try out the game in about six to twelve months!
Well as a convert from WoW I have to say that I'm very impressed with the game mechanics WAR has, especially so soon after launch. After fixing a couple bugs with pets, I have had nothing but smooth sailing. The PQs are great, I can always find an enemy player to gank in Tier 2, and even the PvE has a chaotic (in a good way) feeling instead of everything being a hassle.
As for the whole "stereotype" argument going on, Warhammer has been around a long time (25 years now) but not as long as our fantasy background as presented by Tolkein. WAR has a different take, though. Rather than traditional LotR archetypes, we have British people sterotypes. And this is direct from an interview with Mythic's Creative Director
Elves are basically the aristocrats, people who don't know what dirt is and spend all their time reading and looking down on people. Dwarves are the working class: their grumpy, stubborn and may enjoy their beer a bit too much. The orks are basically soccer hooligans who like smashing windows and punching people in the face.
WAR is a good game, but I don't think that it is completly better than WoW. Its PvP is much better I'll give it that, but other than that its pretty much the same. Oh, and I would like to point out that warhammer does not do PvE better than WoW, party quests are nice, but suck unless if you have a perfect server, too many people and you dont get loot, to little and you DIE!!!
Here is the Deal, Warhammer starts in 80s or w/e. Blizzard tries to buy WH from Gamesworkshop, gamesworkshop says no so instead blizzard makes warCRAFT and makes it very similar to warhammer. blizzard makes wow based of warcraft based of warhammer. mythic makes WAR based of warhammer.
That is why the artwork is so similar the look. As for the UI that is all similar becuase its a nobrainer for mythic to make a UI based off of something 8 mil ppl already play (wow), except they have improved on it.
Its alot faster paced, no grinding, it essentially removes everything from wow that is boring or tedious, and aims to improve on the rest.
Another great thing is they are no a war path to ban all gold sellers/spammers, ZERO tolerance, its great to see a game look after the integrity of the idea.
Dont take my word for WAR being better look at all the other reviews, and alot of the negative things ive read a simple things that future patches will no doubt clear up, just as WOW has been years in development, so will this and it wil only get better.
When WoW came out the EQ loyalists stomped their feet & said NEVER! EQ, DAOC & others trickled into the crack that was WoW. EQOA people even bought PC's that could handle the game. I played WoW since release, loved it & yes its a big time vacuum.
I am playing WAR. I haven't ordered WotLK yet either. I enjoyed WoW for PvP but ever since the introductions of BG's it became a grind. I never made HWL, I had a job & family lol. I sadly did hit General though. The more I read about WotLK & PvP the less inclined I am to play it. I love PvP. If I were into PvE I'd play a console game. Thats just my opinion but the majority of people I run into in WAR have similiar opinions.
WoW won't disappear overnight. WAR won't crush it. WoW has turned into a PvE game & the majority seem to love that about it. WAR is PvP, it is NOT gold driven either. You don't have to spend time farming for gold.
One thing that deserves mentioning is the Guild Tab. I really wish WoW had done something like it a while back. In fact I wish WoW had implemented a lot of the guild features that were being mulled over before. After 4 yrs they came out with a guild vault. They could easily do guild houses. Or maybe Blizz couldn't afford it...HAHAHA
Anyway people are going to be loyal to WoW and some to WAR. They'll get into heated arguments about it online. No matter your game or if you're PvE or PvP either is highly addictive & I wish I'd never bought those copies of DAOC, EQOA & then WoW.
(WotLK SELLING POINTS)
Transform your hero's look with new character-customization options, including new hairstyles and dances.
(/SILLY)
Explore perilous new dungeons filled with some of the deadliest creatures -- and greatest treasures -- on Azeroth (I WOULD HOPE)
Its funny when NEW HAIR CUTS are a big selling point for WotLK (cuz I like my helmet)
and I dont even see a point for /dance.....
this is comming for a guy about to dump WoW once WoLK comes out its going be the TOA of WoW (/delte) so good by Twin Blades and hello CHOPPA
Sorry to but it was a fun ride....
FYI Make up your mind on the level Cap. I hate leveling its not fun.
First off, let me say my wife and I are (were) a long-time (whole time) WoW players. We loved WoW. We still think it's a great game. The cheif complaint we have with wow is everything is a grind. We hated PvP in WoW. We were PvE raiders. WAR changed our view of PvP. In fact, PvP sucks and it's a dirty word in our house. We don't PvP - we RvR.(Realm vs Realm)
WoW is a highly polished game, with 4+ years of updates. WAR is a newly released game lacking 4+ years of player feedback and updates. So right off the bat it would be impossible for it to match WoW in polish. Get past that - remember when Paladins couldn't Tank? Remeber before that when the only raid was UBRS? Or complete lack of any battleground at all?
To those of you interested in what all the fuss is about here's what you need to know:
WAR costs about the same as WoW.
WAR can be played 30 min at a time. No shit. Not like WoW claims to be. END-GAME WAR can be done in 30 min, but a major keep seige might last 2 or 3 hours. No problem. You don't even have to be there to contribute to the zone control. PvE, Scenarios, PQs, and RvR all contribute to zone control. Play how you want!
WAR will give you things that you can't get in WoW. And as a matter of posterity it should be noted, that WotLK features that mirror WAR were ideas copied from WAR, not the other way around. (Guild calendars, Acheivements etc) And WoW did not execute these ideas as extensively either.
WAR gives you a guild that you can take personal pride in the advancement thereof. You contribute to your guild leveling up. Your guild levels up, you gain extra benifits guildwide.
Guilds can capture a RvR keep in their name. This costs money to maintain, but earn the guild renown (exp for guilds) and gives you notariety on the server.
You can capture your enemies guild banner, and display it as a trophy of war upon the side of a RvR keep your guild owns. How loud can you yell PwNd.
Seige equipment. WoW is not lame, and they are borrowing this concept in WotLK. It will be a play-pen version of RvR in WAR, but you will get it in both games. These cost money, and consiquently add cost to seige warfare, especially if you are unsuccessful.
Standards. Think "tabbard" expect put a mideival spin on it. It's your guild banner carried by a guild member conveying bonuses to your team on the field of battle. Plant it in a keep to claim it and defenders of that keep will get the bonuses as long as you hold it. These cost money too, being awesome isnt free.
Speaking of all these costs to the guild, you can setup a tax that automaticly takes a % of money from each member whenever they loot money in game. This does not take the tax when the money comes from trade, mail, auctions etc - just loot.
Want to contribute more? Tithes allow players to set additional taxes upon themselves on an individual basis.
Ever had your guild screwed up by a merger, but needed it to have numbers for a raid? Maybe idealogical differences caused division. Well in WAR you can form an alliance, and retain your guilds individualality, and own way of doing things. This is formally supported. You share an alliance calendar, alliance chat, alliance officer chat etc. Groups were never so easy to form.
You can wear your guild colors on your cloak, and dye your gear to make your guild standout in uniform in battle.
"OH S**T Its those Orange and Blue guys again!"
Do you like canned PvP like the battlegrounds? WAR gives you a plethora of choices here. Let me give you a *FEW* differnt objectives avaialable in WAR:
*Capture the flag - standard CTF.
*Smear the Carrier - Theres a magic "ball" in the middle. Whichever team's player holds the ball gets points for their team. Drop it and the other team gets bonus points. The longer you hold it the more damage it does to the bearer.... it must be dropped eventually.... good luck
*Murder Ball - Magic ball, the carrier of which gets considerably more points for kills made against the enimy. Good luck holding onto it.
*Bomb maps - think counterstrike. Bomb in the middle, teams fight for who is carrying the bomb, but once they secure it, need to then carry it and successfully plant it at the enemies bomb site in order to score.
* Control - Multiple control points, more forcers make each point capture faster. More control points held increases score faster.
* King of the Hill - One objective to hold. Score as you hold it.
Or try out the "real" battlefield, and take keeps. Take enough territory, and take your opponents capitol city away. Explore epic PvE in their capitol cities.
Public quests. Some people complain about these being too hard solo. I say re-read the name and delete your stupid post. PUBLIC does not just mean anyone can do it - otherwise all quests would be "public". Public in this case means anyone can participate, numbers required.
