many good points made in both the article, and all the comments. kiddie games do suck. while thq may flaunt "impressive" numbers for kiddie games, congrats, you fascinated parents, grandparents and little kids with your box art featuring hannah montana and their favorite movie character. that has no relation to the quality of the games. i understand it may be difficult to expand and make good games of of thoughtfully developed movies with closed endings. in reality, i do not think much expansion is required upon movies, at least not total scenes and largely unrelated adventures i remember from renting toy story 2 as a kid. but really, a two hour-ish long movie does not need major expansion, maybe little extensions on feature that the director faled to follow up, and a button mashing kid wouldn't really care about the depth of the game in the first place. excuse for the scatter-brained crazieness, but moral of the story is that kiddie games suck, and until a developer spends the same amount of time on a kiddie game as they would a non-kiddie game, that will never change
What's the endgame in this argument ? I would ask you to consider "Does the audience the game is intended for like it ?" If the answer is "yes," then, job done. End of story.
Do reviewers/ fans of, say, The Ting Tings obsess over how bad The Cheetah Girls are ? No. It's not for them so why would they waste time on it. Face facts, gaming has mutated form the days of Donkey Kong on the ZX Spectrum or whatever. It's a multi-faceted worldwide, demo-crushing phenomenon. Only a percentage of games are relevant to your interests as it is with film, music, art, etc, etc.
Another thing that is worth bearing in mind, game fans, is that the commercial products you love to hate pay for the games you don't. The ones that "don't suck" and are not commercial.
Be glad your little sister loves Hannah Montana World Spotlight Tour or whatever it's called. It's paying for the publishing of that little Japanese number you love.
well to tell the truth i kinda liked playin kiddie games when i wuz a kid but now it just isn't gud enough for my taste. sum total is that kids and part time gamers will buy games that have their fav. movies or stuff just to get that interaction. but hardcore gamers won't
Not long ago an old windows 95 pc appeared off the street. As well as having snoods and some helva awful basketball game the pc had a lion king game crusted into its old hard drive. Not being particularly young or much of a lion king fan I was surprised to find that the game was not bad, it was quite good. But I've also played one of Spongebob's pc games it was heavily shittastik.
I louv Wall-E so much. The movie even made me cry. Thats not good, cause now I have a heart. Great. (Rolled my eyes).
I would never get the Wall-E game though. People will make it into a retarded game with horrible graphics. Few months later or less, they made it! Smiles all around! :)
