yeah a part of me wants to believe this game will be awesome and the other part knows im going to realize it will never beat the original...and since ken levine isnt overseeing this personally im kind of apprehensive bout it, i mean you cant take away the creator of bioshock, its like turning the world on its ear.

2K: Mr. Houghton?
H: Yes, your honor?
2K: That is a lucid, intelligent, well thought out objection.
H: Thank you, your honor—
2K: —Overruled.

Having not yet finnished Bioshock I find it hard to comment, I'm currently only about 1/4 of the way throu the game (by my reconing) but I'm enjoying it immensly.

Having said that, i think if Bioshock 2 can be a different game experiance in terms of the basics, which playing as a Big Daddy will make it, although i also agree giving u plasmid abilities is a bit of a cop-out and will die down the "wow im a big daddy" feeling, reveal things that werent revealed in the first game, i meen we already know we're guna learn alot more about Little Sisters, and more interestingly the mysterious Metal Daddies, see how rapture has changed, once again i agree with your complaints in referance to the changes to the splicers, and if it can have a great story to it, while it wont be a great game like its predessesor was, it can at the very least ne a very good one.

There again how I'll feel about it by the time I finish Bioshock is a different matter.

I've been telling all my friends the same thing but all of them insist that a sequel should be made. It'll ruin everything! Also, multiplayer, seriously; ridiculous.

That's it. Have a good whinge and get it out of your system.

I didn't think Bioshock was as great as everyone remembers it being. It had an interesting location, a cool premise, and an amazing twist, but it was basically a generic shooter. Anyway, how could they not make a sequel when there is so much money to be made?
Money is all that matters in the world, right? Might as well squeeze it for everything its got, right George Lucas?, right Steven Spielberg?, right Nintendo?

I've just finished Bioshock and although it held my attention I don't agree that it was an out and out classic. The Edge review was spot on in my opinion-a shooterdressed up in fancy clothes.

this article was obviously done to generate controversy, I really don't think David agrees with what he is saying

i still have high hopes for the sequel but i respect everything you wrote. a very convincing and well-thought out argument. great article.

I worry the lack of Andrew Ryan will make Bioshock lose its cool "Atlas Shrugged Underwater" theme. I loved the ideas that the backstory took from Ayn Rand's masterpiece, and to see that possibly erode from the game is just scary.

Totally agree,
This game could have been a stand-alone gem that didn't need to be franchised. We all could have looked back years from now and remember such a wonderful game that didn't whore around.

Unfortunately, that won't happen, but I will be buying Bioshock 2 anyway.

I'm not excited at all by this sequel. If it garners high review scores then it will get my interest but signs are not good with all this business of playing a prototype BD. I understand the publisher wanting to make money but it's false economy if you grind the name into the ground by releasing a half baked sequel too quickly.

I very strongly agree.

Actually it might be a good thing in a way that Levine isn't involved. The evil German/Nazi theme is so cliche by now it just sticks out like a sore thumb. As original as Bioshock was, it could've had a much more original backstory.

looks better than first one. There was something extremely mournful about the Big Daddy's but due to lame game mechanics they were just semi-bosses dropping resources when you kill them. Also the little sister aspect of this new one is FAR superior to the first one. Also the villain is intriguing, although the villian/s in Bioshock were really good.

Thats exactly what i was thinking!
I played Bioshock a year later than everyone and it is one of the best games ive ever played!

I wish Bioshock would end and the creators would go on and make something similarily enticing, mature, gruesome, touching, twisted, etc. as Bioshock but not make it Bioshock!

I will still get this but i wish they would leave Bioshock as it was and make a new IP.

If something is perfect dont ruin it!
