4. Larry strikes out - Leisure Suit Larry (series)

What happens:
Gaming’s favorite middle-aged loser spends six games (seven if you count Magna Cum Laude, but we don’t like to) trying to get lucky. Yup, no sugar coating here - the explicit goal of the series is to get laid. Along the way are comic mishaps and blunders as something always goes inexplicably awry and Larry is left without his knob dogged. A choice encounter with a prostitute sans condom might make Larry’s junk explode or a sexy girl might turn out to have grotesquely large thighs. Get it? Larry’s shallow!

Even while Larry Laffer was on the lookout for Ms. Right Now, he invariably found true happiness by the end of the games. For a while it looked like Passionate Patti was “the one,” playing his lover through two installments. And then for no reason at all, she vanished and Larry was left once again a bumbling, polyester prick.

Blue Balls:
The Leisure Suit Larry series was never actually about getting laid (surprise!). The amount of sex and nudity were minimal and always took a back seat to cunning double entedres, silly sex jokes and clever puzzles. Aiding the popularity was Larry’s charming and dorky personality. An Everyman with way more confidence than you ever thought possible for an aging hipster, we rooted for him through every game. And even if he didn’t get any, we knew in our hearts he’d bounce back, ready to wreck any girl he met.
