Time traveling with Link

See how 20 years of adventuring has transformed Link from a tiny sprite into the man he is today

Words: James Jarvis

The first Zelda game in the series, released in 1986 for NES, was simply titled The Legend of Zelda and gave gamers their first glimpse of Hyrule, Link and Princess Zelda.

Even though this was the first game in the series it still managed to push the boundaries of game design. It pioneered now widely used functions such as multiple item use and the famillar task of finding items to solve puzzles.

Replayability was a priority even at this early stage in the series. A second quest became available after completing the game which featured harder bosses and rearranged puzzles. Unsurprisingly it was very well received all over the globe. The only downside for fans was that they would have to wait two years for a sequel.
