I agree on the fan service point, I think this plays a huge part in satisfying gamers, I have to say that I have loved the many games over the past years that have made a point in delivering nostalgia to the gamers, it makes me (us?) feel like we are being thought about
i agree with all except i only half agree with the first person thing, i like games that you can switch like oblivion or.. some others that i can't think of right now, but yeah there are some tasks that are easier in first and others in third
@ Romination: actually, my 360 isnt constantly hooked up either, but so few games do this that it hardly poses a problem even for those without constant XBL/(psn).
furthermore i would recomend buying a wireless reciever. i costs round and about the same as a launch-day game and allows you to hook your 360 up to LIVE and your computer, which is well worth the money. if you are a hardcore gamer, and plays for several hours on end, i would also recomend buying a USB-extention as i've heard of incidents where the wireless reciever actually melts from the massive heat produced by this gens best console. taping it up on the wall is also useful if your signal is poor.
no fps's? why as not have a war game without guns...GoW was awsome, halo is awesome, but im pretty sure RPG's are gana be a huge hit soonone word. Customization.
@Tomsta666...I agree 100%. How over-saturated is that genre. Like fighters in the 90's. Good lord. Gamers are too smart for developers to live by the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" motto. We need innovation !
@ Noobeater - "All casual gamers should be hanged"
I seriously couldn't agree more with this statement. When ninty found out they could make bazillions selling shit to the masses they successfully removed themselves from the list of actual games console producers. But whats worse the other consoles are follwing suit.
I've been a dedicated gamer since the mega drive era but the big three now seem intent on pandering to people who think swinging white sticks at the TV with your Grandma is fun.
Was the resolution on flame wars a subtle hint to everyone in the forums?
And I always get bitched at for being a "PS3 Fanboy" but I really have no problem with the 360. It's the Wii that I want to kick in the face.
Nice article, I whole-heartedly agree with 99% of it. Too bad they wouldn't pick these things up...and not abandon them by early January. I can't play FPS, they make me dizzy, even with meds, so seeing the majority of new games coming out as FPS is disheartening, and there are a lot of gamers such as myself that plunked down 600+ on new systems only to be able to play a handful of games.
How could you not mention Bungie for #3? They've gotten more involved with their community more than any company I've heard of. They actually promote fan-made stuff on their website.
"Pressing A always makes us jump! Always has, always will."
See: Shadow of the Colossus.
Triangle is to jump, not X, if I remember correctly. But that game didn't even have a tutorial, so eh.
@ Pablos102030:
they didnt mean it literally, there are loads of games where A (or buttons placed equally on the joystick) does not make you jump. its a generalisation, but a generally truthful one.
A doesnt always make you jump. but whether or not it does, i think their point is more towards the fact that it wouldnt take you half as much time to figure out the controls yourself instead of having a stupid learn-to-play level. they should just asume that anyone picking up the game knows that RT shoots, and that A jumps.
casual gamers should totally be hanged. by the cord connecting the nunchuck and the wiimote.
