Incorrect pronunciations: "Sue ko den" "Swike odin" "Sue ick o dan"
Once upon a simpler time, a lot of gamers didn't give Japan a second thought. As far as they were concerned, their beloved entertainment came from the local Toys R Us and not from some far off country with a foreign language. These were the days when Final Fantasy IV was still Final Fantasy II.
If only the Suikoden franchise had been released back then. We could have known it by its most obvious English translation - Stars of Destiny - instead. And, because we would have been much less embarrassed to go up to the store counter and ask for it, the thing might have gone on to sell as well as that Square series we mentioned earlier.
Oh well. At least we didn't have to contend with the full title, Gensou Suikoden. Four vowels were enough to boggle our innocent minds.
