In Greece we do have this optionthanks to PLAISIO computers! I recently (6 months ago) had a PC made there,basic specs: intel q6600,geforce 8600 and 2 gb RAM on vista. When an error on startup occured and i got it service they gave me the 9600 GT with no charge at all!

If in 2010 computers won't be able to fry eggs, i won't buy one. End of story.

No.

these will be just as unnecessary for the next two years as they are now. NOT useless - but unnecessary. you will not need any of these to play or do anything coming out in the next 5 years

They definitely add a performance boost to those individual areas, but it will not be required or optimized in any software, games, or oses. It will work the same as it does now.

in no way is it changing the face of computing, that will be a decade coming.

Unless some devs decide to push the PC hardware there is no need to upgrade (unless your pc is already outdated). Bleeding edge PCS can handle the huge majority of games now with ease. With devs creating multiplatform games and not PC exclusives they are not taking full advantage of what current PCs have to offer. I hope that changes soon now that Vista is an old issue. I think it/directx 10 really put up a major road bump for pc gaming.

*adding to my previous post.*

On another note you can build a great bleeding edge gaming PC now for less than $1000. I put together a full gaming PC + winxp OS at newegg minus monitor/keyboard/mouse for $600. I could have pushed for $400 but felt it was solid build. Back in the 90s/early 2000s a decent gaming pc cost you $1500 at a minimum.

@gta3mattb

Why does the inside of that case seem to have
so much more room than my Antec 900?

Thats because its the antec 1200.

also what graphics card did you put in there Kornedbeefy.

With the economy the way it is I'm staying with my old PC; it's fast enough to play any games out there- at least for the forseeable future.

what about the weight of the laptop notebook? the only reason to have a notebook is mobility, if the notebook is as heavy as a desktop why spend all that $$?

I will be building my dream gaming rig this year and man am I stoked. I was getting a little tired of the NVidia line of graphics and wasn't seeing any real improvements in the future. Thank God Ati radeon stepped up their cards. I am looking forward to slapping in a pair of 4870s into my rig. I think pc gaming is
taking a real turn for the good. With all that Blizzard is putting this year and other companies trying to put out good titles, 2009 is looking like a good year for us pc gamers.
