The Least Faithful Movie Games

Game not fun enough? Make stuff up!

Words: Shane Patterson, GamesRadar US

Movie
A dissatisfied, yet ultimately schizophrenic Edward Norton starts fight clubs around the country after growing tired of his menial middle-class existence. The clubs grow to urban terrorism and Norton realizes he’s his own worst enemy (literally). Take that consumerism/establishment!

Game (Multi)
The fact that a game exists negates the entire anti-consumerism message perpetuated by the film and novel. What we have here is a subpar fighting game complete with characters from the film (even Fred Durst). Fight Club didn’t shake up the genre, although it did let you beat the crap out of the Limp Bizkit frontman.

Movie
Just how much of this Philip K. Dick adaptation was real? Ah-nuld’s a construction worker who buys a vacation to be implemented in his brain. He specifically asks to be a secret agent that saves the girl of his dreams, yet things go haywire right before the surgery. Now Arnie’s on the run for reals. Or maybe it’s all a dream? All we know is that he meets up with a greasy baby sticking out of a guy’s chest, who happens to be Mars’ top freedom fighter. We say rent it!

Game (NES)
Arnie braves terrible platforming and fights the same bearded, purple jumpsuit-wearing midgets multiple times. That’s how far we got.

Movie
Jake and Elwood Blue are on a mission from God to save an orphanage. Apparently, that involves battling Neo-Nazis and the cops in order to get the band back together and raise some dough. Known for one of the coolest car chases/pileups in movie history. Also, directed by the guy who was acquitted of murdering three people while filming the Twilight Zone movie (look it up!)

Game (SNES)
Jake and Elwood Blue platform through pastel-colored worlds while collecting floating records. For some reason, the brothers buff up like a roided-out superfreak when a certain power-up is collected. Not sure if that’s purely aesthetic or if special powers are gained. We also don’t know anyone who played this.

Movie
One of the greatest films of all time is also quite the epic at 200 minutes. GF Part 2 parallels the story of Michael Corleone as the new Don of his family in Las Vegas with the tale of how his father grew up in Sicily and came to power in New York.

Game
Even though Godfather II doesn’t ship until spring, the game takes many liberties from the film, just like the first game. Sadly, protagonist Aldo from part 1 is dead and you play as a new guy running the family in New York. This mixture of strategy and free-roaming also takes you through Miami and Cuba. Remember, this is Godfather II, not Godfather Part II (movie title).

Random and pointless nitpick:

Your picture from Ghost in the Shell is actually from the later TV series, not the original movie.
