StarCraft? Yes, it fine tuned the genre's gameplay mechanics into a very tight package, but I see it more as evolutionary than revolutionary. What about Dune 2? If I remember correctly Dune 2 basically pioneered the core mechanics imitated by modern RTS games such as resource harvesting, the three factions with (some) variations in units, unit/building construction and placement, etc.
