The BEST FREE games to play this holiday

Take your mind off the recession with the best free adventures, shooters, platformers, and RPGs this winter

Words: Tyler Nagata, GamesRadar US

Eternal Daughter
Download it now

Eternal Daughter is one of the most celebrated freeware games ever. Due to its incredible art, beautiful soundtrack, and engaging story, Eternal Daughter is still a pleasure to play. If you want a great platformer/RPG that’ll send you swimming through nostalgic memories of the old SNES days, you owe it to yourself to take the time to download this classic.

Above: If you have fond memories of Chrono Trigger or Super Metroid, we suggest you give Eternal Daughter a shot

Murloc RPG: Stranglethorn Fever
Play it now

Murloc RPG: Stranglethorn Fever is the best homage to World of Warcraft we've ever seen. Trust us. You'll love the author's take on the most beloved/hated monsters in the history of MMOs, the Murloc.

With plenty of WoW humor and its great attention to detail in recreating the look of Stranglethorn Vale, Murloc RPG is the sort of game that only a true WoW fan could create, and one that all WoW fans will enjoy.

Above: If you’ve never played Murloc RPG, take a break from Wrath of the Lich King to give it a whirl. You won’t be disappointed

Charles Barkley Shut up and Jam: Gaiden
Download it now

Developed by the ragtag group of coders and ballers at Tales of Games, Shut Up and Jam begins by regaling you with the tragic story of the Great B-Ball Purge of 2041. Thousands of the best basketball players around the globe were hunted down and killed during this frightening period due to the discovery of the Chaos Dunk, a jam so powerful and deadly that it could rock the very foundations of the world as we know it.

Unfortunately, this hateful anti-balling movement couldn’t stop the Chaos Dunk from striking when the mighty move eventually devastated the city of Manhattan 12 years later. 15 million people died that day and the world would never be the same.

Above: Be careful. This is the best trailer you’ve ever seen

As the title suggests, you’ll be stepping in the shoes of an older, wiser, and tougher Charles Barkley, who has managed to elude the authorities all these years. But now, Barkley finds himself framed for unleashing the forbidden jam.

You’ll need to tap into all your mad skills to ball, bash, and blast your way through the ruins of Manhattan to clear your name and get to the bottom of the mystery behind the infamous Chaos Dunk attack.

Hi Reborn,
I like I Wanna Be the Guy and Cave Story too. I just felt like we've talked enough about them in other articles on this site. If anyone else hasn't played them, follow these links. They're both great platformers.

I love the music playing in the post, but can't identify where it's from. Help?
GamesRadarTylerNagata  - 11 months 15 days ago
Hi ntvtxn. The song is from Fancy Pants Adventure: World 2.

You can actually play it in the window. The arrow keys are to move. 'S' is to jump. And you push up to walk through the doors.

But I think it's better to play it in full resolution. You can find it by clicking the link above.
