After reading this article, I thought I'd give Spiderman: Web of Shadows a bash - thanks GR! Even though I'm not a huge Spidey fan, I have to say that the game is soooo much fun!
Amen! Although, keep in mind we just had a BIG hardware launch. The DSi kinda killed a lot of recent releases, but the older ones you mentioned: You'll get NO argument from me there. Although, I'm one of the few who are getting these! First game I got for the DSi was GTA. I've been blowing away HOD:O, but then again, I bought that on whim. And many of these PS3 & 360 games I'd play had there been a Wii version. But most of these have been on my wishlist for some time. Never fear; they will be in my library soon. Mark my words.
Mad World didn't sell well? Really? That's suprising. It was so hyped. I would have bought it if I had a Wii. I'm guessing hardcore gamers gave up on their Wii's and sold them for something else. There is no reason that shouldn't have sold well.
I had Tales of Vesperia. It was good, although the storyline was really, really complicated. At least trying to learn how their world worked and trying to keep straight all the funky names they gave things. I've played Condemned, it's a great game, would have beaten it if it weren't for that damn butcher lady I could never figure out how to kill. I've played a bit on Condemned 2 as well, exploding dolls, thats fun stuff. I've played the Darkness too, but I didn't get all that far. I was -this- close to buying Earth Defense Force. The guy on G4, I forgot his name, he talked about it. He said it was underated, and really fun. I JUST bought Ace Combat 6, like last week. A friend told me to get it. It's suprisingly fun, but it is challenging. At least for someone who isn't used to flying games. At all. and it actually has a storyline! I would have never guessed that. But then, I've never played an AC game before. If Dark Sector is really that cheap now, I'm definately buying it. Right now. I want glaive.
i have just recently acquired darksector for 10 bucks and let me tell u it is the best deal i have come across. the graphics plus great designs on levels=epic win, also the glaive is pretty cool, it can react with environments to kill ur opponent in different ways.def jam icon is also a great game. only appealing to certain groups though.
I went out and bought Retro Gaming Challenge and Eternal Sonata because of this list. While I haven't had the chance to play Eternal Sonata, I can't get enough of RGC. People complain about a lack of originality out there, and yet games like RGC go ignored. Sad.
Hmm, there's a lot there to comment on, but there's three that stuck out, on the last page funnily enough.
First is Prey. I'll admit, I've never played it, but the way you described it, as being a good game, not excelling in anything, but fun nonetheless, reminded me of Haze. While it didn't blow people's minds, I played it and thought it was good, not fantastic, but sounded exactly the same as Prey.
Secondly, I was surprised with the F1 Championship Edition, I thought that'd sold quite well, but never seen the figures.
And as for GTA: CW for DS, I thought it was amazing, agrguably as good as GTA IV, yes I said it.
You guys are looking at this the wrong way! Hardly any hardcore gamers play the Wii. DO you ever hear the phrase "I'll go play my Wii, ful of anything an actual gamer likes." NO! And most of the games here, are just nostalgia. Did you and your friends say "50 Cent? Another piece of merchadise? Oh my god! What am I doing here?" NO! You guys have this all wrong. They're good games AND overlooked because we are tired of playing the same things.
Hey guys just wanted to say thanks for the article, picked up Blue Dragon after reading this, for 10 dollars with the 3 game discs, and it definately is amazing.
the Darkness, Conan, Resistance 2, Mario Strike, Folklore, and Virtua fighter 5. i have all these and they aregreat games, i often go back to some of them.
It's good to see one of the Tales games in there; shame it's the wrong one. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World has far better storyline and did what diehard Symphonia fans like myself didn't expect: it kept up the outstanding intricasy of the plotlines and the characters, all while selling half as many copies as Vespasia.
"Perhaps gamers were tired of the concept – but that hasn’t stopped them buying crappy mini-game collections on Wii, has it?"
Really ? Are you sure that its "gamers" and not moms buying E rated shovelware for themselves and their kids ? Because I don't see "gamers" bitching about the fact that theres not enough games for the wii to be satisfied.
Also is ace combat 6 ever coming out for ps3 ? Dunno why the hell they would only make it for the 360 and every last one of their games has been with PS 1/2.
Oh yea a couple games in this list that I played are straight up garbage and are not worth the rental--- Wanted, blood in the sand are two notable examples in this list
one of the games i think you missed is "Prince of qin" for when it came out(2005?) it was still better than diablo and now one even knew about it people i know even think its better than diablo 2 wich it probly is givin that diablo is limited to its tiny storyline whereas "poq" has a nice long one that takes time to finish and to people who say i hate games with long storylines then i say at least then you can say youve finished it and then others would say "holy crapola iv only gotten half way and its taken me foreva"
