TalkRadar UK 1 - E3 comedown

E3 09 Special: We blunder through our debut podcast and discuss the aftermath of E3

Words: GamesRadar UK

You didn't ask for it and we've only half brought it to you: GamesRadar's UK team has finally got off its collective ass and sat in a room for 50 minutes talking as animatedly as possible about videogames, and called it a podcast.

Highlights/post-recording observations are:

- How many times Scottish Dave doesn't say anything

- Nathan's uncanny knack of saying 'again' every other sentence. Again.

- Justin's rampant yet too often denied Sony fanboyism

- And... Editor George foolishly getting The Beatles' wives and daughters mixed up

Oh, and for any global listeners, listen out for the world exclusive of a Cornish man on a podcast - our very own Matt Cundy.

(There's something about being a murderer and dressing up as a woman in there too which we're less proud of and nearly edited out.) All in all it's a 7 out of 10, good for fans of the genre, worth a rental (or free download). There will be more so stay tuned.

Update: We've re-upped a louder version. Thanks for letting us know.

Another update: People have asked what we talked about. The plan was loosely to cover E3 so we touched on what it was like to be at the show, motion control, PSP Go, where we think Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are headed next... That sort of thing.

Yet another update: If you are interested, the Podcast is recorded in Future Publishing's recording studio in Bath, UK.

The podcasters in this episode are: Nathan Irvine, George Walter, David Houghton, Matt Cundy, Justin Towell and David Meikleham.

Another GamesRadar podcast?! I hope its as good as the US one. Maybe it'll be like like The Office, but reverse.

Another podcast? Good, more mindless talking about video games!

While a goofy accent is fun at parties it remains to be seen if us "blokes" on the "other side of the pond" will be able to even understand this podcast but I'm willing to give it a crack.

Here's a peice of advice for ya' though. If you Euro-casters are going to ride the US's coattails at least do it on a different F'n day so as to spread the podcastiness around a bit in my otherwise bleak nearly TalkRadar-less week. Peace.

I'll give it a chance.

TalkRadar with a British accent? It's gonna be brilliant.

YAY! I may be American, but I have always wanted a British version of Talkradar.

Just keep in mind guys, it took the US Talkradar about 10-15 podcasts before they really got comfortable with themselves and ironed out their certain "niche" that they were going for.

Don't worry UK Podcast- I'll give you a chance... like, 15 podcasts worth of a chance if you go that far.

You guys are the mature cousin of TalkRadar. you may be a little "off topic", but you haven't gone as far as coining the term "Muscle Fucking".

Nathan Irvine? Were you the guy that wrote for PSM2 and won a competition to do so or something?
I recently gave the PSM3 podcast a go, and I think I might have heard you on that too. Was Mikelham (or however you spell it) on that as well?

I've read loads of David H and Justin's articles on GR. It's cool to hear what they sound like, but I expected to them to have each others voices. I thought Houghton would be the posh one.

Anyway, I think the podcast needs to be louder. Don't know how all that works, but yeah. It's way too quiet. (a lot of podcasts seem to have this problem) The sound on normal TalkRadar is a good volume, if you can emulate that?
The sound effect segues were really loud and just came out of nowhere. It seemed like you could have just edited right into the next bit or whatever.
But the podcast seems about the right length.

The intro stuff was unnecessary. You can announce what will be talked about and who is on it on (the article author picture things also help us listeners go "Oh it's that guy!") the splash page I'm commenting on right now.
And you could also post the drunken picture that was mentioned there.
I'm also curious how and where this was recorded. Like, we all know the American TR's conference room setup in San Francisco. No idea where GR's British offices are tho'.

When was this recorded by the way? E3 and details like the origin of the name Natal have already been discussed to death and stuff. :\
Which reminds me, I agree with JHawk about releasing it on a seperate day to the US counterparts.

Also, one of the things that makes US TalkRadar so good is that they don't just discuss the basic news stories and new games and have this dry "it was good" attitude like every other boring podcast. Because they lead in with the top 7 and often go off topic, they end up discussing all kinds of different games from different eras and stuff. And the anecdotes and things also help.

Anyway, sorry for being so critical and writing a big bloody essay. But I really want this to succeed and be great. It would be brilliant to have a really good, interesting and British Talking Radar alternative. You can do it!

Can't you download this through iTunes? Can't get it into my podcasts section otherwise, and I'm kinda anal like that.

This isn't going to make many US listeners think all British people are like this regardless of quality?

Before I check it out, what regional accent do they have? THERES MANY DIFFERENT ACCENTS IN THE UK.
