I don't if any of the GamesRadar team have played the level across some bridge, I can't remember the name. IGN has/had a video of a guy going to town using the same technique, and it was working quite well.

I love the the melee only strategy, and I try to do the same thing in all games on their easier diffculties.

It seems like it's intentional, but it looked like you were going to do a few times in the video if you weren't so good at getting around cover quickly.

If the trophy you unlocked was related to knife kills I'd think that it may be a startegy that was intended because I know I'm going to try this first chance I get lol.

@John-117 *looked like you were going to die a few times* not "do a few times".

Besides that looks like it's a blast to play, this Resident Evil 5, and SF4 can't come soon enough.

"in a shocking twist for a game that’s under tremendous pressure to be good – it’s pretty good"

Not sure how many other ways you can take that. Mikel clearly says it's good, there's just this weird flaw we thought was funny and, in lieu of another generic preview, decided to post a custom video instead. We're also far from the only site to give Halo 3 a 10, so that's not even worth bringing up as "evidence of bias."

@GIjoe01
I to thought it was funny how the helgast react, but some people can't take a joke

hehe, add in some alternative music and you've got Rambo: The Video Game?! That's awesome, I love little observations like this in games.

It's okay gamesradar... you shouldn't need to defend what you guys do every day: poke fun at the games industry as a whole.

Everyone who is freaking out about their bias against this game or any other needs to un-bunch their panties; it is merely for our entertainment.

Gamesradar and it's journalists (probably) aren't allied with particular companies or games like you desperate fanbois so clearly are.

Who the hell cares what they think, I'm buying this no matter what anyone says. I've yet to be wrong about a game I've bought so aside from the "flaws" this is still a buy for me.
warlord09  - 10 months 19 days ago
I could do this in COD4? Why the fuck do we need a new story about it!?

KILLZONE'S slashing doesn't seem to be as rewarding as Call of duty 4's stabbing - not nearly as...
Hope that this turns out to be a good one because as much as Sony hass promised over the last couple of years about "Ps3's potential" some of us are still awaiting to be awestruck...
Meanwhile Home and that sorry excuse of an online service leaves much to be desired and I'm just glad that I've waited for ps3's latest price drop before buying something which ultimately sits there and gathers dust unless I want to see a bluray or play a couple of games offline.

I don't understand the claim that we're nitpicking a game that isn't even out. That's what previews are (or should be). We play games early and if AI isn't up to snuff, we say so. Y'know, to let you all know how it's shaping up. Also, reviewable copies have been sent out (which we have in our possession and have been playing).

To say that we're being unfair with a reviewable copy of the game is just kind of naive. PlayStation The Official Magazine's review appears this month, so clearly the game is finished. In fact, we've been playing with the copy they used for the review.

Here's something else: I'm really looking forward to the game. I am. I played a little bit the other day when Mikel said "Hey, try using just the knife." And that's what I did... for 20 minutes. All I did was use the knife. It's just interesting to note that I had relatively little problems slashing my way through the game - up until I was lit up by a force of 8 bad guys.

It's just kind of bullshit to claim that a staff of people are "aligned" to any particular game, Halo, CoD or otherwise. There's no Hivemind present. Every game has its flaws and because Killzone 2 is one of the next big games to come out, we decided to poke fun at some of the interesting quirks with it. Lighten up.

Funny, but thats not how you play the game. And it's boring. Im gonna get this game. It looks amazing! Can't wait!:)

I love how many biased people post on these comment sections, before they even read the Article. "OMG, GEARZ FANBOY!" or "Go back to playing your stupid Generic Halo game, Xbot." Those two phrases have been across the internet and back about this game, and I'm getting really sick of it. Are people not entitled to their own opinions anymore?

Seriously, this article, which by the way, Thank you GR for pointing some of these things out so I can try them, because I myself like to, Y'know, Enjoy my games? Tell me running around stabbing people with the Bayonet in CoD: WaW wasn't fun. I personally did it all the time when I had the chance. This is more or less the same deal.
So seriously, stop taking these War games like you're in an actual war. You're not part of the USMC, It's highly unlikely you know even 10% of the USMC, or much less, any true Military tactics.

You know I saw the same thing happen in rainbow six vegas, except of course that game doesn't have a knife. But if you run right up to A.I.s you can shoot them in the head point-blank without any difficulty, they have no idea what to do when you do something that stupid.
SpikeDelight  - 10 months 18 days ago
That's a pretty big flaw. They'd better fix this before I get my hands on it because if they don't I'll always have this in the back of my mind....
EvilInkarnate  - 10 months 17 days ago
I agree with GoldenMe. This doesn't seem to have 1/8th the personality of Gears. GIJoe, I was thinkin the same thing. But we can't take semi-auto shots all over the torso and keep runnin at them. lol
EvilInkarnate  - 10 months 17 days ago
@ Shane: I appreciate a real preview by the way. Every other site previews a game and makes it seem like it's gonna be God's next gift to gamers, then when you play it it sucks. So I applaud you for stating what a preview should be. And to the guys sweatin this game, he didn't say anything bad about the game anyway. Sheesh...
mgbenin  - 10 months 17 days ago
Hopefully they keep it. Its great to be able to go John Rambo on everyone

not being funny, but this video highlight breaks in 12 places.. and doesnt show the whole level. The character could of died 12 times in this 'highlights' ..so to die 12 times in the first level because youre using the knife is about right, lol.. plus we dont actually know how far in to the first level we were when it ended.

If we say that this highlights vid hasnt been doctored to show KZ2 in a bad light then I think this video (the game) is played on easy or its old code. No one who has played the final code has said about it being 'this' easy.

Most games when they give you the easiest mode level will lower the AI and decrease bullet damage, thats exactly what this video shows. Personally I believe that this game was played for the video on an easy setting.

Maybe GG made the easy setting REALLY easy? and thus the harder settings REALLY hard?

At the end of the day IF this really is the final code and its on normal setting then there will be an outcry, but I sit on the fence on this one because of the amount of people who have said they have played it and not mentioned this problem once.. even Insomniac community manager JStevenson said that he had beaten the game (final code) and that it was awesome.

If KZ2 turns out to be a turkey then there will be a lot of people with egg on their faces, especially the ones who have stood up and publically said that yes they have played it and yes its amazing.

I watch this vid and think Hmmmmm, its a shame they didnt show us setting the game up on difficulty and then showing us (with no breaks) the whole level.. but even then we would question it being the final code.

Its best to question all of this rather than just believe that its a broken game.
hardcore_gamer1990  - 10 months 17 days ago
hehehehe... great vid lol

overanalysing on the "slashy-slashy-one-hit-kills-yay" thing: I think it's a subliminal message that the producers have put in to teenagers to say that knives are lethal and not to carry them

though on that note, teenagers that will play this game are more likely to be carrying a packet of crisps and a "Game" loyalty card than a knife.

PS: you can't spell "analyse" without "anal" :D

GamesRadarShanePatterson:

While I agree you guys aren't overly nit-picky, to say that there is no hivemind is silly. Seriously, game journalism is nothing but hive mind. Doesn't really matter though, it's not like you guys do your own reviews or anything.
