New Sony ad for Europe tells it straight

Sony's new 'Search: Start PS3' TV advertising campaign begins tomorrow in Europe and, in a refreshing break from the rather abstract adverts of recent years, it actually explains what the product can do. What a novel approach. Personally, we quite liked the Champions League vulture, but it didn't tell us much about the console, did it? Check out the advert in full right here:



With the features laid out in a list like that, it is quite surprising to see how far the console has come, from the excellent VidZone music video service to the new official PS3 BBC iPlayer. It would have been nice to see some gameplay footage from Uncharted 2 or similar, but - hey - it's a step in the right direction.

The ad finishes up with the very attractive new £249.99 price point and equally attractive PS3 Slim, which launches on September 1. We've already got our mitts on one, which you can see through the links below.

nice article guys, now that the price has dropped I might actually get a PS3

I have never been tempted to buy a ps3 before now (ive never played mgs for more then ten minutes) but i would really like a blu ray player sooo...)

Lovin this advert, finally gets the point across that the PS3 is not just a games console.

If I hadn't have bought the original 60gb I would definatly be getting the 'new ps3'.

Even though it isn't the point of the advert, it should have some MGS4 or littlebigplanet footage, something to get those 360 fanboys to actually acknowledge the ps3 as a good games console that can match (and better it in some circumstances) the 360 in the games department.

Cool ad. I expected some massive list of things though, since I read the article before watching the video - you make it sound like it listed loads of stuff the PS3 can do. It said three things - three things!

i bought the 60gb when it first came out in the uk, i am just worried that they will bring out all new content and stuff for the 'slim' and leave me behind! this isnt gonna happen is it? cos i cant afford a new ps3 lol.

No caediodfunk-even though the ship in the slim is capable of running faster as well as cooler and more cheaply than in the fats the games still get built to the same specs and no pergormance changes will be noticable.

It's clocked to the same speed as the fat in any case as far as I know. And in any case the launch UK 60gig is STILL the best console I've owned this gen-full of features and options AND BC which I don't wish to lose so I'll be keeping my launch machine! Never had a problem with this one either.

Good trailer, hopefully it'll spark some interest. Ps3 is the best console on the market and at that price, should be a hit.
