Resident Evil 5 will scare you shitless

We count 25 ways these crazed freaks will keep you awake

Words: PSW UK

13) Enemies also stop at nothing to get you - which is absolutely terrifying. Think you’re safe up high on a suspension bridge? One of them will use a grapple to either climb up after you or pull down the rickety wooden structure. Feel nice and cozy inside a building? They’ll hack away at doors and barricades until they can all pour through and kill you. It’s a pack mentality.

14) The not-zombies’ weapons may be as primitive as those carried by the villagers in RE 4, but that doesn’t hold them back. Expect to face machetes, steel hooks, axes and bats among other lethal implements. The villagers have seemingly cobbled together anything to use as a weapon. When they advance on Chris, they’ll wave their weapons above their heads to intimidate him.

15) Brand new to the series is the way that the areas affect Chris. Too much exposure to the desert heat and he may experience hallucinations, which nonetheless may need to be overcome in much the same way Ethan Thomas will physically battle his inner demons in Condemned 2. How this heat exposure will be measured (an on-screen gauge?) is yet to be revealed.

16) Since Chris is combat trained, you’d expect him to know how to defend himself when unarmed. You’ll be able to push an enemy away and follow it up with a smack in the chops as he’s staggering backwards; duck out of the way of attacks; boot an enemy into a crowd of others to send them flying; and elbow an enemy who’s grappling you from behind.

17) It uses the same over-the-shoulder camera view from RE 4. That’s enough for us.

18) It might not be a direct sequel to RE 4 as such, but it will continue the overall story rather than being a standalone game. It’s set ten years after the original, so we can expect references to the first three games and some explanation of Chris’s activities.
