My best memory is in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. The final boss fight against The Final Hazard playing as Super Sonic and Super Shadow with "Live and Learn" playing in the background. Kickass song.
My favorite Sega memory is when Sonic was on the cover of Nintendo Power. That's when I realized the video game world I grew up with was over... I still have that issue displayed in my room.
Aaaaaw...memories. Playing X-men 2 on the Genesis with my buddy Spencer when we were kids. Very first system I ever owned and the very first game I ever got addicted to. I was always Night crawler, my buddy was always Gambit. Those red robotic ninjas didn't stand a chance.
i remember wen i was a little rascal i used to get my haircut at this super fun kids place, it had a bouncy castle and a fort like at mcdonalds but screw all that, they had a seeeeeeeeega! i dont remember the names of all the games i played but i remember i went to that place even wen i was too old to go just for that amazing piece of machinery. then the damn thing broke and ive never gone since. it was good while it lasted though
While I had the Genesis and a hearty selection of games on it, my more nostalgic memory of Sega came from the Game Gear. I remember getting a Sega Game Gear bundle for my 10th birthday with Joe Montana Football and the terrible rendition of Sonic 2 with it as well.
It was Joe Montana Football that taught me how easy it was to literally glitch and break the game. Since the game didn't have statistics or any sort of changes from one team to another, it didn't matter if you were the 49ers or the Patriots. So from time to time I chose at the time the New England Patriots (during the period where they were nobodies) and ended up breaking the game by doing consecutive 30 yard passes and TD passes almost every two minutes, and intercepting the ball almost every chance I had. Regular season games had me win by 105-0 with my Super Bowl win at about 77-3. Even in a generation of Game Genies and the rising of Game Sharks I learned from Sega's perennial football game that some games can be conquered if not destroyed without physically cheating.
It's gotta be the Dreamcast because:
- online play (Chu Chu Rocket, Quake, Phantasy Star Online)
- voice recognition (albeit one game, but phew, WHAT A GAME!)
- beautiful yet quirky and "out the box" games (Jet Set/Grind Radio, Rez, Seaman, Cosmic Smash)
- Sega's arcade games (Daytona, F355, the Virtua games, House of the Dead)
Then, when it was announced that it was to be discontinued, I snapped up as many games (EU, US, and JP) and peripherals as possible, but I was also able to easily play - with EASE - so much homebrew and emus!
The joy to discover the Megadrive/Genesis and Master System back catalogue!
A fantastic all round system - such a shame it never fully realised the potential, and what wonders Sega would have if they were still in the hardware business.
HEY GUYS finally got an account, Its not creative or cool but being that the genesis was my first console my fondest childhood and videogame memories all come from playing sonic 2. with my dad, with friends, it never gets old. I swear to god ive asked chicks if they wanna come over and play sonic 2 and it FOKIN WORKS!
Thanks for the podcast, its the highlight of my friday :D
Primary memory: I was one of the suckers that foolishly bought a Sega CD. I remember playing Streets of Rage with friends that had never seen it on the CD, and they loved the CD-quality sound of bashing the phonebooths for items so much that it became the sole reason to continue playing.
Secondary memory: Being the only Dreamcast owner anyone knew in college, NFL2K alone was enough to keep a constant stream of traffic to my room for at least 6 months. Indeed, NFL2K was the ONLY DC game I owned for that 6+ month period. The footballin' was so good that I remember being awoken on several occasions from mid-day naps by two or more people having a heated match on the gridiron.
I never owned a dreamcast or saturn, but I have fond memories as a child playing Sonic 3 & Knuckles on my Genesis. I also enjoyed the heck out of Fun & Games because I didn't have Mario Paint at the time and it's kind of similar.
For me, it would be when my friend got this Sonic game for the PS2 with lots of the classic games. Me, who never had the Old Sonic experience, since I was a Nintendo Fan. Oh boy, was that game great! It really gave me that experience, and I have now been able to play an actual "good" Sonic Game.
