since you guys said please no zelda nor mario 64, i'm going to have to go with goldeneye 007 since it still is the best bond game ever... unless you prefer more realistic characters, but out of every bond game, i could easily waste more time on this one and still not be bored of it. ea made some that i could finish easily since there are only 12 levels max. and the missions feel stale to finish. i like putting on donkey kong mode, makes it that much funner.
For me, it would have to have been Megaman 64. Sure, a lot of people disliked it, but to me it was everything I could have wanted out of an adventure game. I hold story paramount over gameplay and presentation, and the game most certainly delivered. Sure, it deviated hard from the other Megaman games, but it also had it's own charm and wit that hooked me. I remember playing it for entire days and having a blast with it. Anywho, that's my two cents.
Hmmm, if I had to choose one N64 game that I could stand to look at for more than an hou.....wait, what the hell am I talking about? There IS no game I could stand looking at on N64 for more than an hour! But as far as quality of gameplay goes, I'd have to go with either Goldeneye or Mario Kart. 'Nuff said!
You know the 2 choices you outlawed might be my 2 LEAST favorite games on the N64. I love the classics like Goldeneye and Mario Kart, etc... But my all time favorite has to be the one game that in my opinion can actually still stand up to what today's generation offers(not graphically of course). I'm talking about WWF No Mercy, that is one classic sunuvabitch! It had it all, backstage brawls, (shitty)intro videos, and of course probably the best ladder match to date, seriously, if you still have this game pop it in and check it out. Sure there's some slowdown with 4 people on screen, but hey this one has the best control scheme of any wrestling game. Smackdown Vs Raw is an embarrassment when compared to the glory that was THQ's N64 brawlers. You can put all kinds of pretty graphics on that turd, and all kinds of pretty sounds too, but I think we all know we're still looking at one smelly ass shiny turd. For shame THQ!
I don't know why people think the N64 was a failure. In my opinion, it was my first and is the best. Playing SM64 when you are like 6 years old and there were so many levels and it was so covered in weird but cool things. I'm surprised no one is mentioning Star Wars Rogue Squadron. Star Wars Shadows of the Empire was cool too. Ugh, so many great games. My parents let me and my brother choose a game or a movie to rent and we pretty much always rented a game.
I don't know. I probably logged the most hours between WWF No Mercy, Star Fox 64, Mario Kart 64, and Super Smash Brothers. Best baseball game of all time has to be King Griffey Jr. Anybody remember Mystical Ninja? Army Men was pretty awesome. The only problem with No Mercy was that it didn't have hell in a cell like WWF Smackdown 2 Know Your Role on Playstation and it also had a okay season mode. I would switch between those two games but No Mercy was awesome.
I don't know how people can list Conker's Bad Fur Day. I would have to say best N64 game besides those two was ... Banjo Kazooie. I was close to saying Star Fox but you can beat that game in an hour although it did introduce the rumble pack. Runner ups were: DK64, Rogue Squadron, and MK64. I love that racing game. My brother and I would so get into that.
In my opinion, N64 had something for everybody. It had shooters like Turok, Goldenye, World is Not Enough, Army Men, Jet force Geminim, Rogue Squadron Sports: 1080p Snowboarding, Waverace, Mario Kart, golf, tennis, RPG: Quest 64 and had great platformers and had Vigilante and great Star Wars games as well as Smash Bros. Playstation just mainly had shooters and RPGs like Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid and a few great fighting games like Tekken. Only real good platformer was Spyro and Crash Bandicoot was pretty cool.
N64 had better graphics and could play up to four players. Some people argue it can't hold a lot of memory like the PS1. Look at the some of the games mentioned above like Rogue Squadron, Quest 64, Super Mario. Sony just must of had greater marketing because I don't know how sold more systems. And there was also Zelda. How can you beat that?
Rocket. I dont know if anyone has ever heard of it, but it was my favorite freaking game as a 5 year old who couldnt even read. It was an overall crappy game about a weird looking robot who was locked in some crazy amusment park and had to rescue his animal friends from some generic evil guy. I played it and played it, even when my underdeveloped 5-year-old puzzle solving skills wouldnt get me any further. I realize it was a pretty shitty game, but i cant help loving it when i go back and play it again.
By far my favorite would have been a stand off between Perfect Dark and Super Smash Bros. I loved SSB as a kid. I'm proud to say it was likly my first game I ever played. I just bought an N64 off a friend last Christmas and I still love Perfect Dark Multiplayer. Can't wait for the Xbox Arcade version!
Wait. Conker made me get in ALOT if trouble, so the best game was Superman 64. Just art. So much fun. I mean, when you start betting money to see who can make superman fly for the longest time, nothing compares to it. Great childhood!
