I've only pre-ordered two games so far. The first was mercenaries 2. Not because I HAD to have it or was super excited, but just because I kinda wanted it and I happened to be at gamestop like one day before it came out, so I pre-ordered it and had them ship it to me.
The second was Fallout 3. That one was special. It was MY game. It was everything I could ever ask for..and more. I spent at least 8 months becoming more and more and more excited, obsessing, spending my web page design class basing all my projects on it, doodling BoS symbols in my notebooks, seeing two-headed cows in every pasture we passed in the car.. I had to have it. I pre-ordered it, special edition of course, a few months ahead. It came out on a tuesday, I think, and we had to drive an hour to go get it from the gamestop I ordered it from. I about exploded. Then I skipped school the next day so I could play it. (with my mothers approval. It was that important.) Go ahead. Call me crazy. I don't mind. Anyway, it didn't disappoint. Its still my favorite game of all time, if you can even call it a game. To me, it is much much more than just a game. I cannot express how much love I have for the world of Fallout. Two more days until Broken Steel! Woo!
I pre-ordered Loz Twilight Princess for gamecubeand thought it would come out in like a week but it was delayed about three times so it could be released with the wii
The first game I remember preordering is one that I actually don't remember preordering. When Final Fantasy 8 was released I received a call from Software Etc telling me that my copy of the game had arrived and that I had $5 towards it already. Honest-Tom that I am, I told the clerk that I don't remember preordering it. She didn't seem to care and said it was waiting there for me. So I went and bought it.
Like many people, I couldn't get into FF8. I was expecting it to be like FF7. I played about 1/3 of the way through and gave up disappointed. A couple of months later, after my expectations were gone, I came back to it and played all the way through. I've since played the game two more times and now see it as one of the true gems of videogame history.
I remember i pre-ordered Zelda: Twilight Princess, because i read in an issue of EGM that if i pre ordered it, it would come with Wind Waker, but with Twilight Princess graphics.
Yeeahh.... that was an April fools joke... i felt stupid.
my first game that i can think of is Halo 3 but i used to preorder to get the special stuff so maybe pokemon emerald i remember i got Pokemon rby the day b4 it came out cuz i asked when it came out and they got their shipment that day so they let me buy it iwas fliped cuz i was like 7
Me and my mate pre-ordered SmackDown 2 together. I received my copy with a free T-Shirt one day before release. He got his 2 weeks later. His mother forgot to tell him that a parcel had arrived the day before I got mine.
First game i preordered was probably star fox 64 after receiving one of those Nintendo commercial VHS tapes in the mail. Actually having my first job at this point, I went preorder crazy for N64 games after waiting months before getting a copy of Super Mario 64.
"It's the only game I can remember pre ordering for myself, my sad, sad, father-uncle-step-daddy tried to lull me into his den with Halo 2, but it was for naught. My dear carpet munching mother was the one to fuel my desire to fit into my new urban 'hood, I being the only ivory child in a concrete jungle of tar people."
Seriously...? Tar people? WTF!
I also have to note that I pre-order all the games I really want now. SH: Homecoming, RE:5...that's about it really.
I remember standing in line for Street Fighter II when it came out for SNES, and this fat kid behind me (who was eating a Taco 9 AM) who was clearly very sick vomited behind me on to the floor. I can still feel the coagulated cheese splashing on my calves.
That was the first and only game I pre-ordered until Street Fighter IV with the Fight Sticks. I got the game but the Fight Sticks are nowhere to be found in this damn (fine) country (Canada).
I am so eager to get these Fight Sticks that I would be willing give that fat kid who splashed cheese vomit on my calf a blumpkin.
first game i pre-ordered was halo3, i do not know why. I do actually b/c it was the first time i had enough money to pre-order a game. usually iwould scrimp and save till i had enough, by then it would be used and half-off. But i remember vividly i had enough to preorder and pick up. I will never forget that moment. :)
The first game I pre-ordered was Gears 2. I was begging my dad for months before. Then when I went to GameStop to get my bday present(the week before release) he ordered it. I also got Fable II that day. The next week when I finally got the game I played campaign until complete on insane. I havent touched it since then because online was crap (8th november) and I actually got more fun from Fable.
My first preorder was Halo 2 at a Gamestop we had in the mall, probably a full year and a half before the actual release date.
I kept the receipt in my wallet the entire time, but on November 9 (release day), my ride fell through, and I had to walk to a nearby Sam's Warehouse (3.7 miles mind you), to finally arrive at 11:50 PM to say I bought the game on launch day.
Not a bad game either.
I pre-ordered Silent Hill 4 several months before its release. I had been hooked on the series since SH1, and a pre-ordered copy of The Room came with a soundtrack cd. I was so excited to get it! I picked it up as soon as it arrived at the store... Unfortunately, I found myself with the black sheep of the Silent Hill family. The flying ghosts and crying babies in the wall just didn't do it for me. I played through just one time, and managed to get the worst possible ending. I never picked it up again. Oh, and by the way, am I the only one who spent hours running around aimlessly in the evil apartment complex just because I didn't notice the slugs crawling on the fridge in one of the kitchens?
I can remember pre-ordering STREET FIGHTER 2: SPECIAL CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION on the humble Megadrive way back in the day. There was an offer in a game mag (possibly Gamesmaster or Mean Machines Sega, i cant remember)where you filled out a coupon and if you preordered it at Futurezone (which was Electronic Boutique before Game) you got the new six button control pad free!! it cost £60 back then!!
i can also remember pre-ordeing my N64 and picking it up on the day, Turok Dinosaur Hunter was £70! ah memories!
