what better way to spend your saturday at home after a week of school locked in your bedroom with the giant clunky controller in your hand that had the cord coming out of the wrong end while stacking crates with a forklift on the docks? Some of my best memories are from my days with the dreamcast.
Also, powerstone helped solved many sibling rivalries regularily, such as who was greatest brother in the universe, or maybe just who had to do the dishes that night....
Dreamcast. In my opinion, if had tons of great games, like Soul Calibur, Powerstone 1 and 2, NFL 2K, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, and Quake III Arena, just to name a few. It also had some pretty good graphics for its time, as well as online play.
The dollar store, race car game. Oh my god.... I can't even explain the way I feel about that thing, pressing left and right to dodge the other cars, then winning the race, nothing else can compare. On top of it all, it only cost a dollar. Lets not forget about the graphics....beautiful.
the n64 was my first console so i should give props to it for getting me started, but a year after i got that i got a ps2 for my birthday. the first games i got were sly cooper and the thievius racoonus and atv offroad fury. i had a blast playing sly cooper with its simple gameplay, great story, amazing characters and cartoony graphics it was like camp love..................... and the first time i found the invisible wall in atv it scared the crap out of me and my brother. and now im a playstation man, but im cool with the other systems
N64, hands down. also my first console. i loved that thing, with super mario and my two favorite Zeldas, and the fist Smash Brothers, and Perfect Dark and GoldenEye, and Doom64, best console ive ever played
I'm probably gonna sound like a fanboy, but my PS3 is my favorite console. LBP doesn't compare to Banjo Kazooie's racing crap, MGS4 was worth the wait more than Halo 3, Blu Ray smashed HD, and even the PS3 motion schtick looks better than Natal
The GameCube, definitely. I spent about 2 weeks hauling out more than 200 pounds of garbage out of a muddy construction site to get it. Even then, I had to bug my parents to go to Wal-Mart at 10 pm (wayyy past my bedtime at the time) and nearly got a PS2 instead, but Pokemon Colliseum took hold of my heart.
After that, it was several more pounds of muddy garbage to get NFS Most Wanted, f*** yeah.
My favorite console would have to be the N64. If I hadn't tried Goldeneye and then decided that I must own an N64, my life would be hugely different. Nostalgia may not mean that the console was the best, but Perfect Dark is the only game that I've ever pre-ordered.
Probably the Atari 2600. Not because it was great or the games were unbelievable but because every time you plugged a cart in at the time you were playing games at the cutting edge.
You youngsters have grown up from birth with video games and you'll never know the unadulterated awe the first time you played Tank against your brother on the TV.
Seriously you didn't judge it on its graphics, gameplay or sound. You judged it on the fact that there was nothing in the world like it.
For a true games console my favourite all time has to be Dreamcast. A console ahead of its time but let down by gamers.
SNES. It was my first system and it got me into games. Good ole' Super Mario World. Still play that down at the cabin when I go. I started on PC in 1999 with NHL 99 and from that moment on I haven't looked back. Golden Eye parties were pretty awesome, but Snes is where most of my good memories lie.
I guess a lot of these commenters haven't been around long.
Being a total casheless fool, I have always had to be a little creative with my gameing choices. I got a friend's Gameboy Color for free and started playing it constantly. I brought it to my high school, and people started giving me free old school games. I have a pretty decent collection of all these old-school GBC games, free of cost. Better yet, some other punks 'round my school started bringin' the Color back, as a testament to good, old school gamery. Forget touch screen gimickery: I've got Rampage, Pac-Woman, Battle Arena Toshinden and other classicks. It doesn't get better than that.
I'm sorry to sound unoriginal, and BLATANTLY ignoring the consoles that came before, but, the Xbox 360 has to do it for me. Before you scream "WHAT?!" down my Private Mail think of this. If someone had asked you what your all time favourite console was, "back in the days of the 64", you might have said the, , 64. And you'd be in the same position as I. But, is there anything better than roaming the Fallout wastes on that sleek, neutral-but-commanding, white horse console? Look at the sheer amount of Fallout profile photos! Fallout 3 will be a classic looked fondly upon by those who were there to bask in it's glory, and the generation next will never know the joys of putting a grenade in someone's pocket. :(
my favorite console of all time is the gamecube. because it was the last good console nintendo has made before selling its soul to the devil (i dont count the ds as a console). the gamecube got a lot of undeserved crap, people should have been more happy with it because after that we got the shit storm of suck monkey that is the wii. the gamecube had many of my favorite nintendo titles of all time like super smash bros melee, zelda wind waker and metroid prime 1 and 2. zelda wind waker is still my favorite zelda game, unlike most i loved the cell shaded graphics that made it seem closer to the feel of the 2d zelda games. it also didnt feature shitty motion controls and a right handed link. fuck motion controls, fuck the wii, and fuck a dog if thats what you are into (which you would be if you liked the wii). the wii is stupid and fuck you reggie, i dont want to buy a sequal to a game i got for free with the system. actually, fuck natal and fuck sony motion control (great name). i never want motion control in games again. i like things, send me things. i like stuff.
ps
if anyone takes that seriously i am extremely disappointed with you.
