I actually barely even listened to music before I got GH3, then it introduced me to Disturbed, Rage Against the Machine, and Slipknot. Basically, its responsible for my love of metal.
Metallica by far. One in GH3 was enough to get me hooked for life. Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and ...And Justice for All are some of the greatest metal albums of all time.
I was introduced to all the great bands of all time thanks to games like these. I left that crap rap behind and listened to some real music. Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera etc. People who think they've ruined music are wrong. They've helped spread the music that SHOULD have been heard in the first place. And I not only hear the songs that are in the game from a certain band. I go and research them and learn more about their music. Come on, with the "music" these days, I had to find something better.
With Rock Band 2's PDA, I found my favorite band, Interpol. Gawd they are amazing, they're songs are really deep and detailed, and it's just amazing. If it weren't for Rock Band, I would have passed them up. AND THAT BASTARD "marluxia2500" STOLE MY PIC
I'm going with Boston. After getting Rock Band, they suddenly became my favorite band. And not to mention that I am a big fan Brad Delp's voice and his range. Rest in peace, man.
It's not a music game but because of earlier Tony Hawk games I learned to love punk, they introduced me to a lot of my favorite bands, Hot Water Music, Bad Religion, Rancid, Rise Against, Goldfinger, and others
@zymn
the first rise against song i heard was prayer of the refugee in GH3 and while i thought it was awesome, i never bothered to check out any of their other songs. but after hearing give it all in rock band 2 i was hooked, and while they aren't my fav band ever their deff in my top five and i am wearing a rise against shirt as i type this.
The only band I came to love after playing a music game is Beck. When I had first heard Beck a few years prior I didn't like his music at all. Then playing "E-Pro" in one of the rock band games I decided to give his music another listen. This time around, I dug it. I'm not a huge Beck fan by any means, but Rock Band had the correct timing to make me listen to him again at a time that turned my opinion of him around positively.
A lot of people that I know played Rock Band or Guitar hero and now claim to love a band. I will always tell them that they only like one song because it was on Guitar Hero you should find out about bands for yourself not just like whatever is on those games, and when they disagree I always ask "Can you name 4 other songs by that band?" They never can but I am a hypocrite because ever since I learned who sang "Run to the Hills" because of Rock Band I became a huge Iron Maiden fan. And Judas Priest.
Don't Hold Back was a bonus track in Guitar Hero III and right after playing it for the first time, I torrented the album it was off. One of my favorite bands now.
Ozzy Osbourne from GH:WT
heard of him but began to love his music as I played the intro of Mr. Crowley.
Also the crazy song of System of a Down got me into them (was it B.Y.O.B?)
Tony Hawk 2 influenced my music preference tenfold got me into the punk scene with Bad Religion, Goldfinger etc.
More recently Burnout Paradice has reinvigorated my love for 90's grunge/alt through pretty much two songs Soundgarden's Rusty Cage, and Faith No More's Epic. Which I had heard before but hadnt listened to in years. A driving a 200mph down an empty street with Rusty Cage blasting out the speakers is totally awesome
The only music game I've played regularly is GH, and I play it because I like the bands they have on the games, so I don't really count in that category, but Adam and the Ants' song "Stand and Deliver" in Burnout Paradise made me a huge fan of the band, if that counts.
In other words, I don't qualify to answer this question, but wanna answer it anyway.
