The Quake series is top for me(I have 1, 2 and 3 tattoed on my back)
1) Quake II
2) Guardian Heroes (Sega Saturn)
3) Final Fantasy 9
4) Blood Will Tell
5) Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner
(I have tons of favourites, but tried mix up the genres)
1. The Sly Cooper series. I just love those games so much. Especially the third one, which I've beaten three times. I can't get enough of those games. Even writing this comment makes me want to go jump around on rooftops for no f'ing reason. Or screw with Carmelita. That's always fun :D.
2. Hmmmm I guess I have to put the Poke'mon series here. If only for the massive amount of time I've put into them. I'd say at least 500 hours of my life have gone into that series. And if I had to pick one grouping, it would be the Gold/Silver/Crystal one. I loved those so much that I even bought new copies on ebay when by old ones broke. And the battle with Red is just too f'ing hard for me to not single this group out. Plus, the Gold/Silver/Crystal elite four is the one that has given me the most trouble the most times.
3. The Paper Mario series. Especially Thousand Year Door. I remember waaaaay back when I first got that game. I spent an entire day, from breakfast to bed, playing it. I barely stopped to eat. My dad brought food to me. That’s the longest I’ve ever played a game in one sitting, which is probably why it gets the number three spot. Plus, it’s also the only game I’ve attempted to make an FAQ for. EVER.
4. The Fire Emblem series. As a whole I have put so much time into these games it is practically ridiculous. I love that no matter how many times you play these games, your parties never end up the same. It's like poke'mon. The replay value is flippin' fantastic. Plus, the stories and the characters actually made you CARE about what you were doing. You frickin CARED when someone died. I can’t name many other games that make you connect with your characters so much. And I also can’t name any other game where the characters talk to you like in the original Fire Emblem for the GBA.
5. The Smash Bros Series. No other series can even be placed in the same category as the Smash Bros series. Practically everybody has played one of these games at some point, even if they’ve never played any other games besides. Also, anyone can just pick up a controller and play these games and still have a good time, even if they just die over and over. The series is also timeless. It will never get old. People will continue to play Brawl until the next smash bros comes out. No matter how long it takes. It’s impossible to get tired of these games. Plus, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is one of the few games that I’ve ever been insanely good at. Only the president of the gaming club at my school could even come close to beating me. Pikachu and Zelda for the win : )!!!
Honorable Mention: Okami. The only reason Okami isn’t in my top five is because it gave me motion sickness. I couldn’t play it long without feeling reeeally sick. But I still love it. It’s worth the nausea. Plus, restoring an area is the single most beautiful thing I have ever and will ever see in a game. I think that’s the only time I’ve ever gasped out loud, or been utterly stuck dumb in awe of a game. Plus, in what other game do you weaken a giant multi headed demon by getting it drunk and then climb the passed out heads?
Half Life 2
Mother 3
James Bond: Nightfire
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Pokemon Crystal
I'm probably forgetting some game that I cherished, but I still love these games anyways. I know Nightfire is just your average FPS, but me and my friends played its multiplayer so much it HAS to be in top 5.
... well... since the first games i remember playing are rather hazy, I will approximate.
5. Mario Kart: I'm sorry I can't remember the console, I was three. However, every waking moment seemed to revolve around this.
4. Mortal Kombat: I spent so much time trying to replicate my accidental appearance of Reptile, I may have spent 70+ hours playing that game. And the fact that goro was an unbeatable a-hole didn't help.
3. Okami: Sadly, no sequel. However, bead hunting was enough for me. after 5 playthroughs i had everything. I used no online FAQs. I just wandered. For hours. When I finally got it and all I received was invincibility, I was annoyed. However, I had everything. Even that damn blocky in Nippon. And then my sister deleted it. My eyes water at the remembrance.
2. Pokemon!: Every version. Red. Blue. Yellow. Gold. Silver. Crystal. Firered. Leafgreen. Ruby. Sapphire. Emerald. Pearl. Diamond. Platinum. I freaked out (in my head) when i learned about HeartGold/Soulsilver. Damn you nintendo. I am your money whore. Every version probably has 100+ hours. But, pearl has the most, clocking in at 232:17. My pokedex still isn't complete. *tears*
1: Oblivion: I'm sorry to conform in several of these, but his is my biggest one. Since I, living in a backwoods town, didn't have the updates/DLC till about 6 months ago, i would roam the country side searching for glitches. Agility?450. Athletics? 300. Beyond the normal glitches (copying) i have found a litch to rip a person from their body. The body lays on the ground and a poltergeist attacks you. I can knock myself into the air to see the layout of the entire countryside. Mind you this is all on the 360.
Honorable Mention: Runescape. I'm sorry, librarians. My addiction had me here every day for years stealing your internets.
Wait i forgot Tekken Tag Tournament. Another honorable mention. I destroyed everyone with Eddy/Hwaorang combo. And then my sister had to ruin it by trying to remove a smudge WITH HER TEETH. Arrrrgh.
probably Call of Duty 4, HL2, MGS4, Fallout 3, and... hmm, i cant narrow it down
and thats just the recent games, for all my nostalgic ones, its definitely
Halo 1 (2 sucked and 3 was pretty good), Ocarina of time, Mario 64, majoras mask, and HL1 (LAN at a friends house, i never actually got it and played through its amazing campaign till a couple months ago)
1. Team Fortress 2. (Best Multiplayer EVER. and I play it over and over again)
2. Left 4 Dead. (Best co-op/multiplayer)
3. Rock Band 2. (Best Music game)
4. Grand Theft Auto IV. (Best Open-World shooter)
5. Call of Duty 4. (Best First Person Shooter)
I got Playstation Network just so I could play Team Fortress 2. I loved it so much, I decided to buy it for PC. I got steam to buy it on PC. I now play it ALL THE TIME on PC, AND Valve is now my favorite gaming company.
1. Planescape Torment
My number 1 game and here's why (spoilers ahead).
When you finally meet Ravel and she poses unto you the question, what can change the nature of a man?, I had responded "nothing". The Nameless One was for me driven by his own will to change, undo the wrongs he committed and reverse his immortality. But as the game progressed, I realized more and more that it could be regret or perhaps belief that pushed the Nameless One forward. When I finally met the Transcendent One was I fully stunned by my actions so far; when I had asked him what can change the nature of a man, he casually replied nothing...I was left speechless for several minutes and simply sat there thinking over everything I had done.
2. Baldur's Gate Series (I, II, Throne of Bhaal)
I can't possibly separate them, they're integral to telling the whole story like any long-winded trilogy. As PCGamer once wrote, isn't it every D&D geek's dream to makeout with a Drow chick? Bioware was fortunate to have this time and resources to fit so much gameplay and story into an adventure that could easily pass the 100 hour mark. Most RPGs look vapid or empty as a result: a testament to Baldur's Gate legacy.
3. Final Fantasy VI SNES
I've played a few FFs but none can hold a candle to this version. It was the crescendo of the Final Fantasy series in pixel format...thereafter all the douchebags gravitated towards FFVII...I was never that enthusiastic about the Opera moment but I'll never forget Ultros, the Ghost Train sequence, the battle at Cyan's Castle.
4. Total Annihilation
Nothing like free for all on a 4v4 map. On the metal planet. Can you say Big Bertha Barrage?
5. Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
I loved the detail and depth of the game and while I rarely played it, I remember my older brother playing this endlessly. With the 250+ page manual, my brother would pore through strategies and unit configurations...nothing like sitting beside him and watching him deftly outmaneuver and outmatch the superior AI. Good times.
In no order:
Ratchet and Clank (original)
COD4
Killzone 1
Okami
Afro Samurai
thanks in advance for not picking me. i bet you won't like that Afro Samurai part.
I'm going to have to cheat a bit on my first entry.
1.) Megaman Series*
2.) Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
3.) Silent Hill Series*
4.) Street Fighter Series*
5.) King of Fighters Series*
*if I can't do series, then my tops for each are Megaman 2, Silent Hill 2, Street Fighter IV by a short margin over Alpha 3, and King of Fighters '98, as I haven't played XII yet.
Note: These are not ranking favorites over each other. Also, 5 is not enough. I wanted Okami, and a BUNCH of other stuff that got kicked off the list. /sadface
Yeah I'm pretty sure my top five games would be:
1. Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean for Gamecube, because it's got the best story of any game, the most innovative combat system, the best graphics on the Gamecube, and it's at least 60 hours long (I've played it atleast 3 times over).
2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for PS3, because it has the most perfectly tuned online multiplayer of all time.
3. Warcraft III for PC, because it has the best and widest variety of custom games, and it produced the tower defense genre of games, which I cannot get enough of.
4. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for PS3, because it's the purtiest game I've seen, and it perfectly concludes the most epic series ever.
5. Pokémon Red Version for GameBoy Colour, simply because it's the first video game I've ever owned, which I saved up for a 3 years to buy when I was 7.
Oh year and I'd like to say that I think that it's funny that in Fallout they say at the very beginning "war, war never changes." and in Metal Gear Solid 4 they say at the very beginning "war, war has changed."
The reason fallout 3 isn't third instead of oblivion is due to fallout 3's boring side quests, and the enchantment alters in oblivion. I wish fallout 3 gave you the amount of weapon customization that oblivion did.
