New York City: As seen in videogames!

Our video homage pays tribute to the Big Apple

Words: Joe McNeilly, GamesRadar US

New York City is one of the most recognizable and revered cities in the world. It’s no surprise then that it’s been portrayed in videogames ever since programmers realized that electronic computation boxes could transmit graphicals on their cathode readouts. We hope you’ll enjoy this comprehensive collection of digital New Yorks, cultivated with the utmost love and respect for The City that Never Sleeps.

Why is it that games and movies love to destroy NY???

As if the World Trade wasn't enough.

Max Payne 1 and 2 took place in NYC. Also Red Alert 2, when the statue of liberties face gets blown off.

I thought GTA IV was based in LIBERTY CITY ahh I'm just knit picking but I'm sure someone else would have pointed that out so I thought I'd be the first to say it (that doesn't mean im like all those D**k* that scream first when their first to comment on a article does it?) But otherwise that's alot of New York's.

@DarkMatter032 I think it's because New York has been built UP so much that it's a great excuse to have large explosions and for things to fall over.

too bad my hometown (Minneapolis, MN) has only been represented in one measly game... Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. That video tribute would be quite short unless sports games (stadiums and arenas) were included.

Damn, another feature that could include Freedom Fighters but forgets about it. Damn Edios for thinking Kane and Lynch was a better series to foucus on.

Other than that great Video, and a brilliant idea.

Hey its GR's resident horse! lol...

Kinda disturbing how towards the end you see a bunch of shots of New York being destroyed...and some in which the WTC is still standing

MGS2: something happens. Someone back me up. There's the bridge, the river, that big boat crashes into the harbor.
