Should have included Activisions "luxury" MW2 price in the UK-or indeed any of their previous "you pay more cos you're English" BS like GH(full band in a box) and DJHero too.
If my fellow UK gamers fall headfirst into this two faced(how could they have the front to moan at PS3 prices a week before pulling this stunt? Oh, yeah, I forgot that BS courtcase with DF/EA/TS over BL which THEY willingly dropped!) and immoral crap just as they haven't got the willpower to demand a price that's fair and wait for it t be instated I think I'll have to find another place to ame in-one with a fekkin backbone. Sheesh.
BTW, I've gotten plenty of, erm, action at midnight launches before-they're a great thing! Just add beer and slightly geeky girls! It's how I first met the missus. Even at our local supermarket for the Wii launch we had a great time: we feasted on Pokemon cakes which a drunk(or stoned I couldn't tell if the cakes were that innocent tbh)Zelda was handing out tag lag, drank an odd blue punch named after SAmus' classic nemesis Meta Ridley and had an all round raucous gaming shleb about!
Otherwise, yeah, bang on-tiny effin helmets indeed!
"Assuming that a game will be enjoyable because you like the license is like expecting to like the taste of a turd sandwich because poo is the same colour as chocolate" nice, very Zero Punctuation-esque
Those aren't mine, but they are great :D
About pre-ordering... I don't do that. It's the same for me. But a friend bought me a copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl in a pre-sale. So, I played it 6 hours before anyone else. YEZ! THAT'S AWESOME!
Is Reggie giving us the finger? And I've never had a hard time finding copies of new games on release day, so I've never had to get one at midnight, and the only reason to preorder is to get some kind of bonus, which you might as well get if you're planning to get the game anyway, or if you order from Amazon, the price is probably less than brick-and-mortar, and you might as well preorder so the game just comes to you without having to think about it.
I'm a huge Clive Barker fan. I mean HUGE. Jericho had an amazing story and great gameplay if only you didn't die so quickly and your squad didn't run into suicide exploding guys like it was commonplace. If you get the cheats for more health it's playable.
And I just gotta say with that cheat, it's one Hell of an awesome FPS.
I totally agree with the midnight game launches. I went to get in line to get SSBB, but once I got there I thought "Why don't I just come back at midnight? It'll be fun, but it's not worth standing out here for 2 hours."
hmm, reminds me of what happened to a friend of a friend. he pre-ordered a game, and they understocked and he ended up with 5 less dollars and the same waiting time as those who did not pre-order, in fact somebody who didn't pre-order got it before he did. reminds me of seinfeld at his best http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FIpLWUT3yw i wait for games to go down in value and ended up with between 6 to 10 classic games for the price of one new game. metal gear solid 2 and 3 only cost $20 total, and they are better than most of the games we get nowadays (strangely most of the games that suck are party games).
let me guess, your game store is not in a mall, well mine is in a mall and closes at 6 pm every day, earlier on sundays. then there are those stores (wal-mart) that close at 10 and opens at 8. no such thing as a midnight launch, in fact, you would only see one person per block. you can practically drive on the wrong side of the road from one side of the city to the other and not hit anything, not that i would never do that, but it is like driving on a closed course except for it is not closed.
I agree with quite a bit on here, but yet, I think that some special editions are *awesome* (including the MW2 one), and waiting outside for a new release can be fun. However, the main thing I disagreed with was how art devs and music composers don't influence a game. Would Okami, which GR obviously adores (and for good reason!), be the same without its Japanese-water color world? Would SotC or MGS be the same without their amazing soundtracks? I think not.
I went to get brawl the day it came out, and the line wrapped around the store. I seemed to be the only one to notice the second line with only two people in it, and got the game about 5 minutes after entering the store.
I've been to a few midnight launches. They were with my friends and I actually didn't get a game, but they can be both boring as hell or fun, fun being if there's a tournament. Or boring as hell, being just waiting for a game you reserved and are for some reason losing sleep over. And special editions too, sometimes worth it, other times not. And I never bought into all that reserve the game you get insignificant junk business. I just reserve if I know it's going to be a fast selling game.
Heyhey, midnight launches can be cool! I've only been to two, and they deserved it (Halo 3, which brought out a few hundred people, and Fallout 3, which the Bethsoft came out to).
Oh come on! SE are almost always worth it (and rarely more expensive). Get the game, or get the game, soundtrack, walkthrough, etc.? They both cost $50. The Conduit's extra's sucked, but since I didn't lose any money over it, I didn't lose any sleep.
The only time I was ever disappointed was RE4 "Premium Ed." Making of video? No. It was 15 mins of Capcom saying, "we've done so much more this time, but no spoilers; you have to play it yourself."
