MadWorld: Murder Melody

VIDEO: Choice cuts from the first three levels set to beautiful music

Words: GamesRadar US

Our Wii’s just hit puberty! House of the Dead: Overkill splatters onto screens this week, and later next month Sega’s following that up with a brass-knuckled punch from the post-apocalyptic bloodbath, MadWorld. We got to play through the first three levels of our most anticipated Wii game of 2009 and we just had to show you the outright nastiness that’s in store. However, one thing we won’t be spoiling is the game’s audio. Play our custom video below to see what we’re talking about!

No offense to Greg Proops’s and Marcus Fenix’s swear-laden commentary, but there’s a certain mortal sonata we’ve never been able shake since MadWorld was announced. Surely we’re not alone in thinking the title alone conjures images of Donnie Darko and Gears of War’s marketing campaign? Either way, GamesRadar has done the unthinkable and synced MadWorld’s carnage to the first song that comes to most people’s mind. You’re welcome!

FYI: The songs featured in the video are by Gary Jules and Evergreen Terrace.

We've been liking it. I'm concerned the novelty might not last the entire game, but the cool visual style and the fact that the violence and commentary are SO over the top they're funny has it staying fresh so far.

Bout time the Wii gets a slap in the face and told to act more it's age. And I completely agree, Mad World does pop into my mind whenever I see the title for this game.

With No more Heroes, Okami, Zelda, and now Mad World, i am now slowly wanting to buy a Wii.

I really wish Nintendo would make some sort of Wii2 with better graphics and motion plus already built into the controllers. then i would definitely buy a Wii.

The novelty will last long enough if the characters and the bosses keep coming fresh - and from the videos scattered all over the place this seems very likely.
It's a great idea to move away from ultra-"realistic" graphics for a new take on videogames - even if it's for a little while.

We'll just have to wait and see till late March.

@GR'sEric
I'm worried the novelty might wear off too. But how is the combat? Challenging? Rewarding?
No More Heroes' novelty would have worn off if the game weren't so short, and if it didn't have some of the best boss fights (uniqueness and challenge) and rewarding combat.

PS - make a guest appearance on TalkRadar, even if you don't stay for the whole show.

it looks great, but i really couldn't justify buying a Wii for one game. maybe i'll rent it when my cousin comes for a visit next month and we'll see.

it does look really fun though

All through the second half of the vid I was dying to know who was doing the "other" cover version of Mad World. Thanks for not leaving me in the dark, GR!

It's definitely time to make friends with a Wii owner.
