LittleBigPlanet's Offensive Lyrics

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: See the official reason why Sony delayed their biggest holiday hit

Words: GamesRadar US

Everyone expecting the adorable world-building LittleBigPlanet to hit shelves this week was rightly disappointed when Sony announced a worldwide recall just a few days ago. Apparently, the PS3’s biggest exclusive this fall contains a background music track with phrases taken directly from the Qur’an. And because the Qur’an is the central religious text for Islam, Sony and developer Media Molecule feared Muslims would take it the wrong way and get all pissy.

Above: Awwwww, how can we stay mad at these adorable guys?

Not us! We refused to send our review copy back for demolition and instead ripped video of the offending lyrics no matter what the cost. Here we present to you unaltered video of music from Grammy-award winning artist Toumani Diabate… who is in fact a devout Muslim. Think it’s a big deal? Or was Sony correct in anticipating a media shitstorm? Comment below!

LittleBigPlanet’s new release date is October 27th.

So...no recall of GTA 4, but Little Big Planet, the last place I'd ever look for offensive material, gets pulled off the shelves. Whoa...what brave new world we live in.

They should have been able to release this with no problem. But if they had shipped it as is, Fox News would probably have gone bat-shit crazy about it. Remember Mass Effect's controversial sexing it up? (Also, really funny video).

Has the Muslim community addressed this publicly... yeah, i know, this is a game, but between the media and some... more passionate... people out there...

Has anybody heard anything?

A funnier disclaimer would have been to say: "Actual in-game footage"

i am a muslim and can understand that this is offensive. qur'anic verses should not be taken as lyrics in music. especially in these times of dodgy relations between muslims and non muslims i thnk sony did the rite thing. o ye and wot has the composer being a muslim got to do with anything??

Wake the hell up people! This is a HUGE disgusting problem with this country.. This is AMERICA everyone. The United States of America. You want to practice your religion freely and without prosecution? Welcome to America. You don't like the soundtrack to a game? DON'T BUY THE DAMN GAME!! Sorry for caps but it really ticks me off to see a company cater to a certain religion to evade a possible media rebuke because of something in a FREE COUNTRY. Rizzler, and anyone else that is offended by this game should not buy it...why do those people in this country who are not offended have to get an altered product because a small segment of the population doesn't like something about that product? It makes me sick! Muslim feelings > non-muslim feelings??? Since When!? The very saddest part about this whole thing is that you can't REALLY blame sony for re-calling it because they would surely take a hard hit on this game (which is gunna be great) if they didn't bend to these peoples' wills.

I'm not too sure if Media Molecules have thought this through, it's a song written by a muslim, I can't see other muslims complaining about this if they knew it was by a muslim, although.......
