Oh yes, I play Fei Long, Sakura, AND Dhalsim, I am the win on this one.

AzRedsk1n: What Rockman said. There are a few people in the office who can happily use a 360 pad, but even they admit that it's definitely not 100% accurate. Personally I can't use one without jumping in the wrong direction half the time and fluffing my move/combo timings quite a lot. So I basically don't use one.

Even if you can manage with one (and like I said, some people can), once you've used an arcade stick for a few days you won't ever be able to go back. The flow of control, accessibility of the button layout and extra thinking time you get when you know you can pull off everything you want to order just make it a whole new game.

And yes, if an SFIV tourny gets organised I am TOTALLY down with playing the winners. :) No wethers here! Keep us posted!

how not to be a webmaster jerk:

don't put up adverts that slap a big flash box in the middle of the screen requiring you to close it before continuing to read the webpage.

@Shifty1001,

Wow, that's pretty friggen funny since I have never even played an online match ... Grow a pair and fight, learn to defend as well as attack ... I never said throws weren't cheap, I said it's a part of the game ... Most of the items in the list is just people being jerks, tactics that are IN the game is something else ... I really find it funny that people think everyone has to fight "with honor" ... Riiiiight ... There's no 'Bushido' in Street Fighter ...

Is throwing cheap if you use a player like Zangief, where most of his moves are throws? I tried to mix up my moves when I used him but there are limits to what he can do.

The 360 controller is rubbish - it severely limited who I could play as competently. Although it could be that I'm just terribly skilled. I also ended up doing moves that I wasn't intending too because of it - it probably looked like spamming to those I was playing.

The achievements encourage things like 1 round 30 second games - getting all of the medals, winning battles (consecutive and total number), number of ultimate finishes, etc.

I don't understand the displaying the player icon thing. It really helps spot the noobs and will be manipulated by those that are choosing who to play. I'll admit taht I was always drawn to those that look like new players so that I have a chance. I respected the odd player teaching me a lesson by having the blank icons. If I wanted to host a game, I often changed my icons to some of the earlier ones, so that I would have more chance of getting a game quickly. I figured there were idiots like me all over the world who were doing the same.

I guess my point is that the design of the game encourages a lot of this 'jerk' behaviour.

I only rented the game for a week and I'm done with it now - so don't worry, you won't be having to play me again.

@lord of ultima. I'm gonna staple the throw buttons to your fingers. Will that satisfy you? You and your innecessant throwing tactics?

1. After getting past a BP rating of 2000, I hardly fight the scrubby Kens that HP DP on wake up everytime. It's their choice to play Ken and that's fine with me.

Concerning the comment: "...if Capcom were to put Battle Point penalties for repeatedly selecting the same character, we wouldn't have to complain."

The Japanese players are very into picking on character and 'mastering them'. I've always liked the idea because through thick and thin they'll play that character.

2. I'll agree with this, but you have time in the pre-match lobby to double check the round and time. So if you're in match-making and scrambling to get into a match before you get the room full message, you can always check before hitting Ready.

6. The game is very well balanced. Far more balanced then a lot of the past Street Fighters. Sort of touching back on my number 1. comment, people should play one character and learn how to deal with their tougher match ups. A good player with adapt and destroy some blanka if he knows how to go into the match.

8. I'll agree with this one, but it's no uncommon for a good player to sit back the first round and see what their opponent is capable of. As for being misleading and tricking the opponent into thinking jumping in is safe and all that, well you should adapt to whatever starts happening. If you jump in and gets DPed, well then you know not to jump in again.

10. I will argue, throwing is NOT cheap. When I start a block string (you call it spamming) I will try to throw. It's the smart thing to do. You always have time to see it coming too. You're complaint about this is definitely premature and you just need to practice and develop an eye for that tactic.

Also, if you're in a block string and you're afraid of a throw, tap LP and LK when you're crouch blocking. You won't whiff the throw, you'll continue blocking and if they do throw you'll tech it.

Like I said, I think you're complaints are premature and you should take more time with it.

Also, good article, you got me to register and you made me realize I could install games onto my 360 :X

Typically I play with my friends since most people online are douchebags, or I play my single player RPGs.

omfg THANK YOU for mentioning the Ken thing...seriously!!! And when it's not Ken, it's Akuma. Thank God Cammy destroys shoto users or it would really piss me off. Spinning knuckle through fireballs FTW!!

I agree with the GRDavidHoughton comment, once you go to a stick, you can't ever go back.
I just broke down and forked over some credit card debt on a card I just finished paying off for a stick and I don't regret it one bit.

There's just no comparing the two. I think my Blanka and Honda had gone as far as they could go without a stick.

I will admit I was doing OK once I stopped trying to use the 360 Dpad and started using the thumb stick though.

*Feels proud for being an avid Abel, Fei Long, and Vega player* God it pisses me off when an opponent actually waits for me to pick my character. For example, when they hover over someone like C.Viper until I pick Fei Long and then they jump over to Guile or Balrog.

It's a shame that, after putting so much effort into writing this article, you lost all credibility with your final point.
raxafrax  - 8 months 15 days ago
leaving a title by your name would be great if scared people quit booting you before the match.
raxafrax  - 8 months 15 days ago
the author is a cry baby. pick who you want and throw untill your heart is content. learn to deal with cheap tactics. this article is for the player who likes to make excuses. as for the one round thing, you have a choice to join or not. ranked matches are nothing but cheap tactics. get used to it. if not play player matches.
Tomsta666  - 8 months 15 days ago
As sad as this is to admit I'm guilty of a few of these :)

I've been doing 1 round, 30 second matches. But my excuse is i'm an achievement whore and it makes my match tally rise quicker!!

When I first started online I would only pick Ken! Dragon Punch and hurricane kick spam works, weather you like it or not!!! Now as i'm doing 1 round matches i've ONLY been using random select.

So i'm not a total Street Fighter jerk!! :D

I really need to get this game. I feel I'm pretty good at fighting games, and my philosophy is that the only way to be truly good at a game is to have some experience with all characters, as opposed to logging in lots of time with just one character. Of course, i'll need to fix my Xbox 360 first... stupid red ring
