We were bombarded with images from Part 1 for like a year or two until it was released. Granted, this was done to show off how awesome 500-lb. super soliders looked on the Unreal Engine, but remember - it’s February now. The game is coming out in 8 months. Epic is banking off the name recognition of Part 1 for you to buy this game and of course it’ll work. But show me something from the game that is amazing right now. Give me 8 months to analyze an in-game trailer with you fighting 3 Brumaks or a chainsaw gauntlet level against 50 Locusts. Astound me with a situation and not a hypothetical meat cube. Why guard your secrets when everyone knows they’ll be shelling out 60 bucks this holiday anyway? Halo 3 had a TV commercial one year before launch. Otherwise, I feel like I’m seeing Gears of War: Again.

Also, that’s cool they can render 100 locusts, but I’m betting it’ll still take 100 bullets to kill each one. So, I’m thinking there will still be you vs. up to 8 at any given time.

We all knew this was coming. A psychic told me as much last month. As much as I love GoW, that teaser didn’t do it for me. Any taste is nice, I suppose. But hammering home the Lancer’s icon status by way of a lengthy, gas-power lightsaber duel, fell a little flat for me. It’s a gun with a chainsaw on it - it’s already at the apex of awesome. Now, if that’s part of the gameplay…

Those enlarged Gamertag avatars they’re passing off as box art isn’t winning my pre-order, but that tech demo had me at full attention. I almost wish that was the damn teaser! Pseudo play footage, swarms of Locusts, and Fenix shooting… anything is enough to get anyone excited. And that meat box could be the next Companion Cube.

Skipping bullets on the water was purdy as hell, but I hope it doesn’t factor too much into the gameplay. If I could be a Negative Nancy again for a second: The worst parts of Mario, Zelda, GTA San Andreas, Tomb Raider etc., are always when you’re in the water. Pleeease - no swimming.

Because the original was so short and sweet it really left me with hungry hands, so I'll be super satisfied for Epic to serve up more of the same. I'm certainly not hoping for any dramatic change in direction in terms of game mechanics. I'd be happy with new environments, a more adventurous colour palette, improved - or removed - vehicle bits and some hefty-sized shit-storm skirmishes between mass numbers of COG and Locust forces. I don't really care about the plot - just as long as I've got plenty of ugly things to shoot in the face and violently abuse in the guts with the chainsaw. Bring it etc.
