Winner: Nintendo's non-gaming gaming system
Nintendo | Wii
Let's think back to November 2006. Everyone and their mom (literally) was fawning over the magical motion box and its super-cute sports game. Cut to today, more than a year later, and Nintendo's still advertising the "idea" of Wii more than the games. Wii Sports is still in heavy rotation, but how many Super Paper Mario ads did you see? Metroid Prime 3? Fire Emblem? Even Super Mario Galaxy has been relatively underrepresented. All these iconic characters and Nintendo can't even be bothered to include them in its yearly Christmas card. Basically, the hardcore games are a second thought, while Brain Age, Wii Fit and Wii Sports get top billing.
But the masses seem to love it. Wii and DS are selling like mad, so it must be a sound business decision after all. Meanwhile, longtime gamers have a system flooded with awful titles and half-hearted, ugly as hell ports. So, just like with GameCube and N64, we stick to Nintendo's franchises to get us through the year. So really, nothing's changed at all, has it? We're more or less putting up with, and not enjoying, Wii's outdated technology at this point. Any day now the tide could turn, Wii will slip out of favor with Ma and Pa NoGamer, and we're left waiting for the next console - and inevitable franchise updates.
Scratched disc: Ubisoft's reaction to Jade Raymond ogling
Assassins's Creed | 360, PS3, PC
"Dear world: Ubisoft is alarmed to see you focusing so much on Assassin's Creed Producer Jade Raymond's ethereal beauty, with your interviews we arranged and galleries of photos we distributed. When we exploit her by parading her around like a hot prom date, it's for the good of the game. When you do it, it's disrespectful."
Sorry Ubi - you can't create a celebrity and then get upset when the universe treats her like one. We'd suggest you toughen up, Google "hentai doujinshi," and be glad it's wasn't much, much worse.
