For Honor's closed beta begins on January 26 and has exclusive goodies for the full game
The For Honor closed beta will run from January 26 to January 29, Ubisoft announced today, and this means (early access) war. Remember, you need to register on the game's official website for a chance at clashing swords with friends and strangers ahead of the release date. Unless you already do that in real life, in which case please be careful.
Everybody who plays in the For Honor beta on PC, PS4, and Xbox One will get some exclusive rewards to take with them into the full game: for starters, the faction-repping "Emblems of Old" which you can use to decorate weapons and armor. Each beta participant must pledge themselves to the Knights, Vikings, or Samurai before they start playing in online matches, and whichever side wins the most in the cross-platform War of the Factions will get to take some extra spoils with them.
The War of the Factions is just a teaser for the 10-week Faction Wars Ubisoft previously outlined for the full game. I played in the closed alpha back in September and wasn't sure if it was for me, but I appreciate the gamble Ubisoft's taking on inventive multiplayer action. For Honor's single-player campaign looks like it could secretly be pretty cool, too.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
Stellar Blade director "grew up too poor to afford" a PS1, but when he finally got one in college, Ridge Racer and Final Fantasy inspired him to make games
Oh, that's why the Stellar Blade devs were terrified by demo players: one fan's spent "about 60 hours" maxing Eve's skill tree before the action RPG is even out
