Hey stagemonkey its possible that the Washington Monument was reinforced in this timeline considering FALLOUT 3 DOES NOT TAKE PLACE IN OUR TIMELINE. And this is the one thing i dont get: Rivet City is built on the Potomic in an aircraft carrier. My confusion is: How the heck did an aircraft carrier fit in the Potomic?

The tiny changes aren't inaccuracies. The first page of the manual has the story of the game which explains this is the future of an alternate version of earth. Small changes in archetecture, street names and art, in my opinion, were great ways of reflecting that.

Good job with the article. I was just in D.C. last year. Very realistic, but could you at least put a picture of the Jefferson Memorial, or did I skip that.

I think the fountain stands for the begging and need 2 live. the women on the fountain are on their knees like they are begging for somethn. (water) they are holding up the basins like they need it and if you play the game you know ur tryn to restore water 2 Washington D.C. So it kinda makes since. also i noticed that the water is not running through the fountain and into the bowls. so it kinda makes since if you think outside the box right?

haven't played the game, (getting it soon) but is there some sorta fire fight that happens near the statue? it might purely be for cover because the one in the game is sticking out, and the one in real life is almost flat compared.... I don't know, just a thought.

This is an alernate reality thats why the fountain is different.

mabye the change in the statue is that we must sit and contimplate what we must do next (girls sitting) and cleanse ourselves of wrongs in the past (basins). and that is presisely what fallout is all about

Id say they changed it because the history in the game is different to real history so they are trying to show the difference it would have on the architecture

maybe changing the fountain was just to emphasize the little differences in the timelines between reality and the virtual world... or something profound like that...

Great article guys.... Maybe they just did that on purpose to see if anyone could find the differences that they through in, hell I put 130 hrs in and I didnt see the whole map.

Am I the only one to realize that the actual Metro train is wrong? And they rarely care about Arlington too.

I don't believe this is the Dupont Circle fountain. It looks more like the Bartholdi Fountain outside the Rayburn House Office Building and across Independence Avenue from the Botanic Gardens. Not the same -- but at least the figures in that fountain are female!

I don't think they thought about the idea that the game is set in year 2277

So minor differences might have been changes over the years

Idk thats my idea

If everything wasn't falling apart, it would look exactly like the real thing

You guys should do a Fallout 3 vs. Conduit vs. Reality comparison. It'd be friggin' sweet!

Just think about it, the fountain's statues are changed for a symbolic and poetic reason. They are holding water basins, do you remember the verse your father reads to you at the start of the game? "I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely," They personify the action of giving clean water to the wasteland.

That's just my theory, but it seems to make sense
