It is saddening to hear about this loss. It doesn't seem right. The media group that purchased Ziff Davis, which I believe is "Hearst", cannot let this happen. They are a respectable media group, which is why I can't fathom the fact that they did not allow EGM to go out on 20 years. I have a funny feeing Hearst has something up their sleeve. It may be the end of the EGM era, but it may be the beginning of another.
That really sucks...EGM was awesome, read it every month for the past few years
It was definitely my favorite, now I'll just have to stick with GameInformer which is still good
When I first heard about EGM's demise I was greatly saddened and upset. I will admit that I shed quite a few tears in thier name, and for the loss that this is for the entire gaming community. EGM has long been one of my favorite, most trusted and most respected magazines and it will be greatly missed.
No longer will we have the snappy three man reviews, biting critisism or smile inducing hilarity on a monthly basis. Long gone will be the early and trusted Previews and First Looks. We have truly lost a gaming community icon.
I will hope and pray for the entire staff of EGM to find a new outlet for thier genius brand of gaming commentary.
To the entire staff of EGM: Good Luck
I will now retire to my humble abode to mourn this tremendous and influential loss.
P.S. This goes for the entirety of 1up.com and thier associates.
This news makes me a very sad panda. EGM was one of the last big gaming mags that I still had any respect for. Now what am I gonna read? Game Informer? Psh. Screw Game Informer.
It was one of my favorite magazines (and I'm pretty sure it was the first gaming magazine I ever read), and I would have subsribed to it, but I chose OXM instead. I'm regretting that decision now. >:
I mean, I love OXM, but I wish I would have subscribed to both of them.
I only have a small collection of random issues picked up when I wanted something good to read. But even though I didn't know the magazine all that well, it will be missed.
I hope the team stays together and comes up with something just as great..if not better.

I remember the "Ubisoft/Assassin's Creed Incident" a couple of years ago with EGM. They gave a dissatisfactory review to Assassin's Creed and Ubisoft theatened to stop sending exclusives and reviewable games. EGM didn't change the review because they knew that they owe it to their readers to be honest about games. Then Ubisoft cut them off. It seemed the entire Internet rose in defense of EGM and protest against Ubisoft. I've never seen that much dedication to the fanbase before. Goodbye, EGM and staff. We'll all miss you dearly.
Thank you guys so much for writing this article. I haven't seen any other major gaming websites acknowledge EGM's departure like you guys have, and that's awesome to me and all the fans. Thank God you guys keep shit real and give props to where your game journalism roots came from. Great work, love the site. Don't ever leave us GR!
@chrisat928 "It really is like losing a good friend."
I think you just hit on the magic element of why anybody reads a magazine or website more than once. You really do develop a relationship with the writers and you do see them as friends. In gaming, they're often friends who can help you make decisions and spend your money wisely. But it really does feel like friendship.
Great now with EGM gone what do i have to look forward to every month? Oh ya thats right: Those damn tests in school. Even better: I can no longer read a new magazine to get me off that bad mood
In 2003 I bought my first EGM as it had a review for Soul Calibur 2. I read the magazine backwards and forwards. Afterwards I subscribed and did so all the way to 2008. In 2008 they were already cutting down the magazine Shoe left and it became 1 reviewer per game (unless it was a big game). I was fed up by the changes and in October when they asked to resubscribe I canceled.
3 months after and the Magazine ends :(. RIP EGM, you stopped me from buying shit.
Gamers should band together to start a bitching campaign against the new owner which would be complemented by a petition sent to them demanding EGM be brought back and the staff rehired.
