The article was good :D
My grandmother cannot see why I/we play games, she also thinks games are the reason why there is war, drug dealing, etc.
Even when I play prototype she tells me "People are going to look at this man and do what he does."
Eeerm transform a huge deformed blade out of your arm and chop creatures in to pieces. Yeah realy likely. :D
"Hey turn off the Nintendo and go to sleep."
"Its 8:30, Mom. I don't go to bed until like...10. Besides this is an Xbox remember?"
"I don't care turn it off anyway you've played way too much today."
"I just turned it on no more than 15 minutes ago and I've done nothing but yard work all day while dad sat around 'supervising', I'm pretty sure I should be aloud to play the XBOX that I bought with my OWN MONEY from working ALL of last summer."
"You didn't buy that thing we go that for you for christmas!"
"That's a load of crap, you got me the Playstation for christmas 2 YEARS AGO!"
And after a long drawn out explanation of the difference of the systems and some other stuff she gave up and went to bed.
I think my Mom calls everything "GAME" really loudly whenever I spend/play too much. If she eventually gets it, she says it really slow. My dad thought Saints Row 2 was hilarious--especially flinging people into outer space with the motorcycle. He said "that's not very nice..." and then laughed.
I remember my dad buying me Megaman X for the SNES way back; he said I could play if it wasn't a violent game... When all the shooting and the explosions began, all i could say was: "Hey they're robots, right?" What I don't know is what made him change and buy me Doom and Hexen and a lot of M rated games for the PC when I was young.
The only one my mom says is "that's not very nice", and she says that when I play Fire Emblem. Explanations be cursed, because any time I try to defend Fire Emblem she's on the phone or doing something else. I'll never understand how "noobs" can't understand that games can actually have a storyline or that games can be a form of art. oh well, trying to explain this gets old, not to mention the fact that the explanation will be forgotten as soon as the "noobs" find something else to think about.
Im actually majoring in Game Design/Game Writing or as some people dont realize, writing actual game dialog and storyline.
Only thing I worry about is being taken seriously by companies and people. My parents actually support my decision, except my dad who is slowly supporting me as he slowly loses his job, in the newspaper business.
these comebacks blew if i said anything like that id just be proving how ridiculously stupid iam if u want to shut them up u have to make fun of them. "Why are u on the wiibox all day" "why don't stop watching tv get off ur ass and get a job?" see thats how its done
Wiistation 360!! I want it right now!!
Why don't you organise a contest to see who can design a picture of one? I don't have the needed talent and knowledge of photoshop or I'll do it. But what about the rest of the comumnity? I bet it'll be great!!
I'm pretty sure my dad made a comment about Battlefield 2 being too violent. Then he got onto our laptop and kicked my butt at it. My uncle said the same thing about CoD 4, then beat it on hardened while I was at school.
My dad tried to play Guitar Hero III once, he's not so bad with me playing games. However, he is bad at playing them himself. I don't think he managed to hit one note in one of the easiest songs in the game. My youngest sister played better than him.
What I hate is that my mum can't see videogames as a medium for deep stories. She thought it was weird when people cry over a videogame character dying, but when it's a movie or book - and I quote- "It's different." HOW? SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW IT'S DIFFERENT!
my parents are actually pretty cool with video games except for my mom sometimes. ill be playing splinter cell, im completely focused on wat im doing, she can see the amount of effort im putting into it and then suddenly shell shout "SUPPER!!!!!!" and ill jump and sprint into the guard in front of me.
