Way too much panicking here. Disney is not going to dumb down Marvel, they may be a big scary corporation, but they're not retarded. This is just Activision/Blizzard again; nothing's gonna change.

Rant away! I share the same fears you do... although, most of them are just as applicable to Marvel had they never been bought by Disney. Disney itself rendered their characters into soulless commodities, and given enough time, I assure you Marvel would've done the same thing.

But thanks to people like Lassetter (and Pixer), Disney is a smarter company with more respect for its properties. Take the Muppets for example. From what I've heard, they've been pretty hands-off and the next movie is looking to capture a tone that's more reminiscent of what made them popular in the first place, instead of trotting out something meaningless in the first year of acquisition. To me, it sounds like they've acknowledged that they didn't fully understand the Muppets the first time, and that they're better off left in the hands of those who do. If that's the case, I think there's plenty reason to be optimistic about Marvel.

This is like a support group!

I actually wouldn't mind seeing a Marvel themed level in a KH game, I'm not gonna lie.

Just think of seeing the Disney symbol in the Bottom corner of a Spider-Man Comic. That's enough to send a shiver down My Spine.

@ FalconMbuster

Actually in South Park, Mickey Mouse and the Jonas Brothers do appear together except they're not holding hands. He kicks one of them in the nose xD

Anyway, personally I think this'll ruin Marvel but I guess we won't find out until 2019.

@ChrisAntista

Look in the 90's no one gave a crap about Marvel and it wasn't that long ago that they were owned by a toy company and in bankruptcy. So, you know, things could be worse. I suppose for me it's all about the consolidation of power and commodities. For my two cents I'd rather have a smaller, still profitable, Marvel than adding another notch on Disney's belt. I suppose that's just the way I roll.

That said, I hear you and anything Lassiter is involved with is a good thing. I know a few folks over at Disney Animation and all of them have nothing but good things to say about the guy.

Like I said I think my problem is simply that Disney now owns all the Marvel characters, forever and that while now things are probably going to be fine. I worry that down the line, someone will get a wild hair and ruin the whole damn thing. I suppose it's the "FOREVER" thing that concerns me, if this was a 5/10 year pact like the original one with Pixar then I would say, no problem, but that's not the case here.

Still, as long as they don't screw up the comics then all is well, seeing as that's the day to day of those characters for me.

As long as we don't have to sing songs or turn my life over to a higher power, I'm good with the support group.

Excelsior!

@Hurricane

I just want to remind you that Bolt is a movie by Pixar, a company made into a giant by Steve Jobs, who then recently sold it to Disney, but Disney was smart enough to mostly leave the creative staff alone (like the brilliant Lasseter), only swapping out the bosses and mostly getting rid of Pixar's singular credit on its films (replacing it with a Disney logo) and changing out the bosses (mostly leaving Jobs to go back to his co-creation (yes, Jobs didn't build the original Apple computer, he just ruthlessly got the supplies for it and marketed it)). In the future, here is a good rule to go by: If it premieres on TV, is live action, and/or just builds on a toy line/TV show, it isn't Pixar, it is Disney animation and can be harassed as such.

Also, I have played enough games and seen enough movies to know that Marvel has been constantly building on its potential for interactive platforms and movies/TV shows for a while, and while most games and TV shows (sorry GR staff) didn't show too much promise, many movies, especially their most recent solo effort "Iron Man," have been really great (the opposite is true with DC: they have better games and TV shows (the animated ones, not the Adam West one) for Batman than the movies (sorry Bat-fans)). Since Disney has mostly made its games playable when they aren't cash-ins like movie games (or even worse, games based on movies based on TV shows based on a teen singer) and made some half-decent TV shows and movies, I say that this deal could help both of them, since Disney has already sucked each of its characters dry of creativity and Marvel has had its limbs pulled in all directions by distribution companies wanting fees, movie companies wanting good plot lines for the characters, and game companies wanting lists of different powers of different characters to be used in movie games (like Wolverine's accelerated healing, which means he needs to be killed instantly if you want to kill him), so even though I sometimes think Disney is just a big corporation that wants to suck all life out of anything it touches (just like Rogue if she liked using her power on everyone), I think this could be a good thing.

This is an excellent article. It really talked me down from my post-deal grief. I mean, it still sucks, but at least there's a bright side.

Sorry, forgot to mention this, but my second paragraph is directed at everyone, not just Hurricane.

Lol, the second half of Toon Disney's new name (XD) looks like someone from South Park laughing their face off in text speak.

@ nadrewod999

Just a heads up. Bolt was not made by Pixar but rather by Disney Animation. Trust me there's a difference.

Actually, I nearly missed the biggest news of the day. I passed it browsing through Yahoo, and then, of course here.

Hey! Only when it's on Gaming News does it matter.

My aunt said she went and saw the new Disney movie, "Ponyo." It boggled my mind that anyone could think a Miyazaki movie was Disney, but she said, "it had the Disney logo at the beginning and everything." It's great that Lasseter is supporting Ghibli's productions, but I wonder how many in the masses think the same thing? The Disney logo can suck away a lot of individuality (like thinking that Bolt was Pixar.)

Ugh I'm just in massive shock right now...I haven't even chosen a side...all I know is that I can't stop laughing at one of Warren Ellis' tweets - "so I got this phone call from Joe Quesada and it was just the sound of him rubbing himself with money and now I am confused"

You guys better pray that you don't see Goofy wearing a Wolverine costume doing crackhead dances infront of Sabertooth Pete. That's gonna piss off the True Believers for sure.

Or worse, Donald Duck vs. Howard the Duck (Marvel almost got sued by Disney and where forced to put some pants on Howard or else).

Unless anybody from Capcom USA who have work on old Disney games in the past (i.e. Ducktales and Chip & Dale) are still around to sweet talk a deal to these blockheads, you can kiss any hope that is left for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 goodbye.

It is very likely that Marvel will be screwed just like WCW did back in 2001 when Ted Turner made a grave mistake of teaming up with AOL/Time Warner. Owner made a deal with a bigger bastard, the bigger bastard force you in a posistion where you can't do $#!%, the bigger bastard sends their little imps to butcher ALL of your work that you spend your life on, do random bull$#!* acts to scerw up your hard earned fanbase, and when they suck you high and dry, fire your @$$ and sell your work to your rival for next to nothing and watch your beloved work be a punching bag and a laughing stock for your rivals the rest of it life.

Just read The Death of WCW and you will know exactily what I am talking about.

Oh, and don't forget ESPN, those creepy little bastards want a peice of that Marvel pie too. We will see Spider-Man, Captain America and the Hulk making guest commentary appearences on Sportscenter, just in time for football season. Contraversey equals cash indeed

You will all learn soon enough that there are no friends in business. This is reality. Deal with it. You will thank me soon enough.
