My neighbor is so incredibly obsessed with World of Warcraft. he lives 20 steps away and considers me one of his best friends, yet he ant stop playing for five minutes to help me with Zelda or something.
I kind of agree with Mario Kart Wii. Theres just something about it that didnt reel me in. But Mario Kart DS is the best, thats for sure.
I'm not gonna comment on most of the Halo stuff because any arguments have already been made. But how is the Chief or the Arbiter any less emotional than Soap, Jackson, or Freeman? At least the Chief can talk.
I love Brawl. While they recycle a lot of stuff, it's still fun. And the story in Brawl was great for a Nintendo game. And at least they don't re-release the game every year (Call of Duty).
The Rock Band video was hilarious. LOL
One thing that pisses me off about COD 4 (not sure if it's every COD game) is that you have to "advance" to get enemies to stop spawning. Why should I have to re-kill the three terrorists I just killed just because I didn't walk three feet forward?
If you're able to take some flaming about some of your favorite games (and if you're a true fan of the game, you should be able to), this is a great article. But I hope most of this was just some exageration for the Week of Hate.
I like most of these games, and see where most people are coming from when hating them I can honestly say that I am a gamer who can like just about any game for one reason or another. However, I must say to the person who hates Halo-I have been hearing the hate from all my PS2/3 loving friends, and i've staved them all off every time. this one proves a challenge. Well, for starters, let me say that i see where you're comig from, and some things do require fine tuning. let me also say that i prefer Halo 2 in some ways. But I believe that Halo 3 is one of the best shooters i've played. The story was a little lacking, true, but I still get a feeling of thrill when i take down the Scarab on legendary mode with my friends when we get bored. The multiplayer is so much more fun though. The range of weapons is a good deviation from games where it's just various types of machine guns, with rocket launcher, shotgun, and sniper variants thrown in. True, in some ways the same could be said about Halo, but The Brute Shot? the Spartan Laser? the Energy Sword? the amount of customization? very large when compared to other shooters. I mean, what other shooter lets you play around with the map? and when done right, it can be very fun. One of my favorites is called Godzilla, and it's a Standoff map with a bunch of scenery pieces put together to make a Giant Godzilla looking creature, that is flled to the brim with weapons. Also, racetrack maps are so much fun as well. game types are great in Halo 3. Most only have basic Deathmatch, CTF, and King-of-the-hill style games. But Halo, well, that has Oddball, Juggernaut, Infection, VIP, and more that just add to the fun. and when you can customize those as well? Even better! My favorite variant is Fat Kid, where one player is a Zombie, who has 4x overshield and is very slow and has high gravity, but is near invincible, and takes little to no damage from conventional weapons. his little minions have incredibly low healh, but are fast and have high gravity. when combined with a good fortress map, the game is very fun, and very intense. Vehicles are another thing I like. Sure, some games have them, but most FPS's don't. Cod 4 Doesn't. Cod 5's aren't as fun. The Ghost and Warthog are great vehicles, and the Banshee and Hornet are amazing, if a bit unbalanced. but a good missile pod should take those down, balancing it again. and last but not least, if you have a good connection, you can always find a game that's on or close to being full. There are always a lot of people on, and if you can't fill up, then you can get pretty close. anyway, that's my argument.
Phh, everyone knows that every bad guy in CoD4 is infected with a mutigen that instantailosly dsinagrates their body so you cant prove how meany kills you actualy got, thereby nerfing your pay... ohh and chris they are makeing "the sims: veitnam" its roumored to have compleatly broken gameplay forceing you to go through deep menus to find the option to shoot people! it evan comes with cute camo fatuigs!!!
i'm surprised to find that i only completely disagree with 2 of these: silent hill 2 and ico. as much as i like braid, it does come of as pretencious, and it has no replay value. i also love smw, but at the time its baby step up from smb3 was no match for the (then) new and exciting sonic.
matthew keast starts off with the same stale argument against gh/rb, but then brings up a good point. these games are only as good as their song lists; if you don't like the songs, you're going to hate the games. but to again argue against the "its nothing like playing a real guitar" complaint: its not supposed to be. its not a guitar simulator, its a rythym game. if you take out the controller, it's not much different than games like parappa the rapper and space channel 5.
that said, i agree 100% with: halo 3, ff8 (a rare miss in the series), wow, the sims, and gta: sa. i have to say it was a good article with mostly solid points brought up against normally lauded games
ohh and i hate on halo mulitplayer becuase its full of 10-year-olds who like to talk about boobs and swear obsessivly when you actualy manage to kill there stupid haxing/noob camping/ rocket weilding arese... plus all the people who want to actualy play the game, like normal people, are told to shut up and challanged with "oh yea gimmi your adress, ill kick your ass!". and then theres the kids who are like "zomg! halo is the bestist thing ever, no game is ever as gud as it" im alweas like "hay guys, i got mass effect" and then people who dont evan know what mass effect is are all like "omg mass effect blows it r not as gud as halo" it really pisses me off. so bravo good call, halo can suck my dick. and before i get spammed, no i dont have a PS3, yes i know pre-mature annoyances are all over live (they just like to spwan in halo and then move onto good games), and no im not takeing money, im not evan a juornalist!!!
And as for the GTA 4 part, FINALLY SOMEONE ACTUALLY EXISTS BESIDES ME THAT HATES THE MOTHERFUCKING REALISM IN GTA 4!!! WHY CANT WE USE A DAMN MINIGUN OR FLAMETHROWER WHY?!
/rant
Wait, I am a Republican and hate GTA 4, so that assumption is incorrect.
Although I love Halo I will agree that it was built upon Hype.
I hate Braid so much, I got it for free and I still hated it.
as for COD 4, I loved Call of Duty 2, but I hated CoD 4 so VERY much, now I am a game collector and CoD 4 is one of the few games I have sold.
ok, some of these are "hate" opinions are reasonable. and beleive me i freakin hate Final Fantasy
but come on. get real. HALO?! WORLD OF WARCRAFT?! CALL OF DUTY 4?! GRAND THEFT AUTO?!
come on seriously those are some of the greatest games ever made.
btw super-saint: i know exactly what you mean, Halo online is filled with a bunch of little gay kids and it pisses me off too.
and Mass Effect is an amazing game. only true gamers know that
