A Nintendo fan's wet dream

Pixel-perfect recreations of Samus and Link make us happy

Ryu Hayabusa - Ninja Gaiden series

Yes, there was a Ninja Gaiden before Xbox, and it was just as hilariously difficult as the modern games. The vapid arcade version even has one of the most gruesome ending scenes we can recall.

But what of PixelBlocks? As you're no doubt aware, this Ryu is all yellow. Well, again, there's no flesh color, so you have to go with what works. Bright orange? Not happening. The bronze from Simon's earth-toned palette? Negative. The only other color that vaguely resembles skin is yellow, and it just so happens to blend with blue quite nicely. Thus, this.

The other thing to note is one of Ryu's feet. It's actually one line longer than the actual sprite. That's because many NES characters are standing sideways at a slight angle, a design that won't let them stand up properly if pieced together with PixelBlocks. To make Ryu 3D-friendly, we've added an extra line of blocks. Sure, one foot looks a little inhuman, but it's a small price to pay for such an iconic figure.
