This article is bad and you should feel bad

First off, going by all major gaming platforms, 2008 was hands down a better year. That doesn't mean 2007 was bad at all, it was amazing, but it's just wrong to say 2008 "sucked", that's preposterous. 2008 was JUST AS amazing in my eyes.

LittleBigPlanet? Fable 2? Gears 2? Crysis Warhead? STALKER CLEAR SKY? Sins of a Solar Empire? Hello? Is anyone there? Left 4 Dead? Warhammer Online? Fallout 3? MGS4? AoC? Mirror's Edge? WOW: WotLK? Come on...please. This article = -50 for Gamesradar.

The only thing lacking was more then one decent amazing Wii title, but MarioKart more then made up for that. There were plenty of great VC and WiiWare Titles that made owning that system more then worth it.

Also, that comparison in the article saying Halo 3 over Gears 2 is just fcking crazy. Gears 2 is far more of a game then same 'ol H3. Bungie played it safe, more of the same, but Gears 2 elevated and evolved itself far more then H3 did over H2. Plus, they're both great system sellers and both worth having a 360 for, so even comparing them in the first place is a bit ridiculous. Gears 2 easily makes owning a 360 worth it in 2008, just as much as Halo 3 was in 2007. I'd even side with Gears over Halo, but that's just me.

Let's Move on....The Witcher on PC ...WAY BETTER this year then last, in fact, it was well worth waiting for the EE to come out this year, in 08, then play last year's version.

Back to 360. Can't forget about Too Human. Another great loot ARPG, if that's your thing. To me, I loved it, although it had it's faults, there was NOTHING on 360 last year comprable. Oh, and speaking of ARPG's, what about Sacred 2 for PC? It's all that, and better then the first. Another highly addictive ARPG that wasn't around last year. Althought I liked Hellgate and stood by during last years worst launch in years as for a AAA title, it's was hardly as good as both Sacred 2 or Too Human in the end.

Moving on to Shooters. Crysis is obviously great and an awesome treat on PC last year, and this year, Warhead was great but more of the same. Still, I actually preferd Warhead due to it's action sequences and better performance then the original, but far too short. STALKER Clear Sky is great as well as Far Cry 2, which round out a solid FPS year. Let's also not forget too quickly about BF Bad Company, which I thought was great as well. L4Dead put's it over the edge this year though, for FPS's, more so then TF2 did last year. Mirror's Edge was innovative and gorgeous, something we don't see often, and nothing comprable to it last year.

With RTS's....Red Alert 3 > C&C anyday of the week. Last year we saw World in Conflict, but this year we saw Endwar on consoles, which is at least like Mirror's Edge, Innovative with it's voice chat. Either way, RA3 take the show.

To top if off with the Motherload. MGS4 was outstanding, and made the PS3 more then just a bluray player, it's a must play game for any fan of the series, and even those like myself who never played the series before. Lastly, and the big one. THE WRATH OF THE LICH KING...2.8 million in 24 hours....the biggest franchise to come this year, puts the argument to sleep for good.

ok im seeing that there is alot of comments about Gears2 vs Halo3 and how they are so different, but really, Halo3 was so overhyped it isnt funny. Can you really compare Halo3's Hype and fanbase to any other game this year?

Also good article i do agree with all examples.

Oh, and I forgot one small game that's hugely successful...SPORE.

take another -20 off for the record. I'll forget about Braid for a second too, or all the other amazing idie titles like Multiwinia (a must play, buy it on STEAM if you get a chance) and World of Goo. I mean, this article is even more ridiculous when you factor in the small guys, which keeps getting better and better.

Oh...damn, I fogot another one...GTAIV!! Whoopps! Another HUGELY successful title and one of the best in the franchise(I personally liked SA better for it's time but still, IV was and is AMAZING) -30 for that one again... Then there's RB2 which only adds to the first, but come on, GH made a HUGE leap this year with World Tour... another -20 to Gamesradar for allowing this article to take one single breath of air.

Was someone drunk over at Gamesradar or just forgot their meds?

i have four words to say to this: grand theft auto 4.
NintendoNerd655  - 11 months 17 days ago
Okay, let me throw this out there: How can anyone like Gran Turismo? It is boring as fuck, I can't see how people enjoy it.

In my response to the article, I agree with some points, such as Nintendo in general and the Rock Band dispute, but come on, this year was great. Things were actually spread out, and not compacted into three months.

Mirror's Edge, PoP. LBP, L4D, Valkryia Chronicles and Gears are all games I'd consider that make 2008 a better year. I agree on mostly everything else though and I'd say that 2008 and 2007 were nearly on par with each other. The games in 2008 are more appealing to me though, besides the COD games of course.

I do NOT agree with GOW 2 and Halo 3.Halo was awful but Gears of War 2 rocks!!!Halo 3 was pretty boring but while playing Gears 2 you feel that you are a part of the game and not just trying to wait for a fleshy human to come and attack you.Halo 3;try to find yourself a place to go and cry in!!!

Call of Duty 5; back to the past.COD 4 was much better!!!!!!

Some, NOT ALL of this year's games were bad. Some were indeed better than last year's.

I absolutely disagree with this post. 2008 leaps bounds over 2007. Metal Gear Solid 4, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2, Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, and Grand Theft Auto are just a handful of the many sensational games to come out this year. In addition, Warhammer and Wrath of the Lich King fuels the addicts thirst.

The previous year's great games like Call of Duty 4, and Bioshock and the more average like Halo 3 and Overlord just doesn't justify the boast in this blog. And with early promising releases such as Killzone 2, Fear 2, and Resident Evil 5, 2009 may shape up to be the best one yet.

I thought 2008 was pretty good actually, why is it they focus on all the bad instead of the good? Not saying any of these games are bad, but come on, those games are innovative...except every new fucking CoD they hack up every single month. Some I've never played, but from what I've seen and from what others tell me, games like Dead Space and Bioshock aren't just "survival horror, shoot what comes running after you",and GoW2 and Halo3 are not just "shooters"

to flare 149: Bioshock was jut system shock. But have you tried playing Systemshock lately. It's unstable, unpretty and there was just something about it that just felt uninteresting.

Gaming in general is getting pretty stale. Here is a summery of every post half-life fps: stranded in a tropical island/research complex/space station shooting soldiers who are fun to outwit. you have inovative weapons/environments/physics. Oh shit Zombies/Mutants/Aliens better get out the shotgun and run down tight passageways.

Gotta say i'm sick of it (tho zombies are pretty cool). great article

well, a lot of you make a good points, and your right, they didnt really compare rpg's. But To me the effort that they put into COD WaW was trash. I think that the online gameplay and story line was much better in modern warefare, nothing really changes, excpet the weapons, which were better in modern warefare because of the present time period

the geras 2 vs halo 3 is a horrible example although they are both sci fi shooters, they are both completly different from each other. the gears 2 multiplayer is amazing and its one of my favorite games
jar-head  - 11 months 16 days ago
flare149 "Is Bioshock just like System Shock" Dude, because they both have "shock" in it's name does not mean they are the same...One fish two fish, red fish, blue fish.......

2008 sent me to sleep...

Well, the article says guitar hero world tour was the same as rock band, they just piled on some plastic cymbals. I've played both and I think the cymbals make a huge difference. Just my opinion.

I think that the games you compared here hold true to your intent.

But over all, I think that the quality of games from 08 was far better that last year.
Left 4 Dead
Mirror's Edge
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD
Super Smash Bros Brawl
etc.

I'm just saying that if you're not comparing similar titles and just making out a list of good games from each year, you're 08 list will be larger.
