Lol Halo 3 was a huge let down at my town. After the midnight thing half the store came to my house and we played in 5 different rooms. Lol Only one room was satisfied. Only room to fangasm and a week later they were all "Meh" after the newness wore off. Halo 1 is the only Halo worth noting. The rest are just steamed vegetables...
I've played Bioshock and Dead Space and really cannot say I found the gameplay similar in any way. Sure they seemed to have quite a few things in common (The botanicle area and the "Good guy helper who is really a bad guy" to name some) but otherwise I thought gameplay was completely different and, I'll porobably get flamed for this, I got more out of Dead Space than I did with Bioshock because after I got the level 2 plasmids It wasn't even scary anymore since I could just burn any splicers to hell and zappify a Big daddy. but Dead Space was always tense for me since those monsters all had their grab attacks and size and scary mutated-ness.
I liked the artical, but it was just wrong in some parts. Bioshock and Dead space are both Horror games, but one is set in what, the fifty's, where Dead space is in space a thousand years later. (Super drama added to the last comment)
The music thing, there was no rockband 2 in that mesh of games. It wasn't intuitive or anything, but it was better than RB 1. And even the hype for Gears 2 may not have been as good as Halo 3, the game is much better than that steaming pile of crap.
The Call Of Duty thing is true though.
Just to list a few games of 2008 that were really better than 2007 (or earlier years for that matters):
-LittleBigPlanet
-Sins of a Solar Empire
-Grand Theft Auto IV
-Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
-Mirror's Edge
-Fable 2
-Resistance 2
-Fallout 3
-Braid
-World of Goo
-deBlob
-The World Ends With You
-No More Heroes
-God of War: Chains of Olympus
-Race Driver: GRID
-World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King
-Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning
-Persona 4
-Valkyria Chronicles
-Far Cry 2
-Crysis Warhead
-Left 4 Dead
-Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3
-MotorStorm: Pacific Rift
-Pure
-Others I'm probably forgetting...
You may not like some of those games, but you can't say we haven't had one of gaming's best (if not THE best) years of all time.
BioShock was never really that scary to begin with; some spooks here and there but it just ended up being more like a dramatic thriller then absolute terror. Also, Dead Space is actually rather famous for taking a whole bunch of ideas and polish them out (hell,GR themselves called it Rapture in Space for crying out loud)...which is rather similar to a certain Sony exclusive...besides, all Dead Space tried to do is redefine horror then rethink how you do a certain gaming genre.
i think the reason ppl say dead space is better than bioshock is because dead space is just a dumbed down version of bioshock, hence a bigger audience. Bioshock is one of the best games of all time, dead space is just ok
I hate to get in retarded-ass fanboy arguments, but sometimes it is inevitable.
People who think Halo 3 got old either don't have Live or have ADD. And people who say BioShock sucked (I'm not dishing people who say that Dead Space was better), need to learn it's not a horror game per se. It's about an excellent story in an excellent atmosphere. But if I'm right, the people dissing BioShock were just the undergrads without any concept of understanding.
GamesRadar, I almost started rattling off in the Comments when I saw the GOW 2 Halo 3 thing. But then I saw it was for the EVENTS. I agree. But Halo 3 launches were freaking monumental. I'd love to play the game that has a better launch than that.
you suck. i didnt know GTA IV, MGS4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, GoW 2, Fable 2, Tales of Vesperia, FALLOUT 3, soul calibur and MORE make 2008 SUCK compared to 2007.
I guess since Halo didnt have anything this year, alot of people will claim 2007 as THE BEST YEAR EVER, until 2009 when halo gets 2 new entries in its franchise.
But this article is incredibly stupid and has very little supporting it. I think Little Big Planet, Braid, Castle Crashers and etc have made 2008 a year full of amazing content from big names in the industry to indie developers.
Charlie Barratt, i'll say it again. your article sucks.
It's kind of a moot point when all the games being being compared to each other are good. W@W, not a COD4 beater but the Co-Op and Nazi Zombie modes are still keeping me playing and it was still a fantastic shooter.
Likewise, Gears 2 didn't get as much hype but really, did it need it? I love Halo but I thought Gears 2 beat it as a game and a sequel hands down.
Plus, how much more innovation can we get with a music game? Brass Band Hero with plastic trombone, etc, only 200 quid!
Way to compare apples to oranges.
Summer 2008 was slow but the spring and fall were great.
That fucking Halo3 collage makes me want to puke, what a joke.
